Job Overview
We’re looking for a hands-on Deputy Bar Manager to join the team at LOOP, an independent live music and events venue in Shrewsbury and home of LOOPFEST.
This is more than simply a bar shift role. You’ll help take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the venue – running the bar, leading shifts, opening and closing, maintaining high standards of cleanliness, managing stock and helping prepare the building for gigs and events.
We’re a growing independent venue, so we’re looking for someone who is practical, reliable and happy to get stuck into whatever needs doing. That might mean running a busy bar one evening, cleaning and resetting the venue after an event, receiving a delivery, organising the cellar or helping prepare for the next show.
The role currently offers 20–30 hours per week, primarily across Fridays and Saturdays, with additional hours available through gigs, private hires, venue operations and LOOPFEST.
As LOOP expands its opening hours and events programme, there is scope for both the hours and responsibilities of the position to grow.
Duties
- Lead bar shifts and help supervise bar staff
- Open and close the venue
- Deliver excellent customer service and maintain a welcoming atmosphere
- Complete cashing-up and end-of-night procedures
- Maintain bar, cellar and stock areas
- Monitor stock levels, rotation and replenishment
- Assist with stock ordering and deliveries
- Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness throughout the venue
- Carry out and oversee routine cleaning before and after events
- Help reset and prepare the venue between gigs and events
- Ensure licensing, safety and venue procedures are followed
- Work alongside security, artists, promoters and event staff
- Assist with private hires and special events
- Help identify and resolve day-to-day operational issues
- Support the wider LOOP team as the venue develops
- Undertake additional paid work around LOOPFEST and other events where required
Who We're Looking For
You don't necessarily need to have previously held the title of Bar Manager.
This role could be ideal for an experienced bartender, bar supervisor, team leader or duty manager who is ready to take the next step.
We're looking for someone who:
- Has strong bar or hospitality experience
- Is confident taking responsibility for a shift
- Is reliable, organised and able to work independently
- Can lead and support other members of staff
- Understands the importance of cleanliness and presentation
- Is comfortable with the physical and practical side of venue work
- Doesn't mind getting stuck in with cleaning, moving furniture, stocking fridges and preparing spaces
- Can spot what needs doing and take the initiative to get it done
- Is comfortable working in a busy live music environment
- Is available to work Fridays and Saturdays as a core requirement
Previous supervisory, duty management, keyholder, stock management or cellar experience would be an advantage.
An interest in live music, events or festivals would also be a big plus.
The Opportunity
LOOP is still growing, and we want to find somebody who can grow with us.
For the right person, there will be opportunities to take on more hours and greater responsibility as the venue expands, alongside additional work connected to LOOPFEST and our wider programme of events.
We're looking for someone who wants to become an important part of a small independent venue team – not somebody who just wants to turn up, work a bar shift and go home.
Pay: £14.50 per hour
Work Location: In person
