Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and responsible Dog Handler to join our team. We are after someone who is able to work an on-call rota shift, which will include nights, weekends & bank holidays. We are ideally looking for someone who has dog handling experience but full training will be given. You must be over 25 for insurance purposes.
We are after someone who can keep a calm head under pressure, ability to think on their feet and use their initiative. This job involves transporting and handling of dogs between our sites. This job can involve distressing situations so you must be able to remain professional at all times. You will be handling a range of dogs so you must be confident and competent in handling dogs of different temperaments.
This job requires you to be physically fit, have good written and verbal communication skills, full manual driving licence, attention to detail, listen to and follow instructions.
Alongside dog handling you will also help out with general kennel duties
Responsibilities
- Assist in the daily care and feeding of dogs, ensuring their health and hygiene are maintained.
- Handle dogs during veterinary examinations.
- Monitor dogs’ behaviour and progress, providing feedback to trainers or supervisors.
- Ensure the safety of both dogs and staff during handling and training activities.
- Maintain cleanliness of kennels, training areas, and equipment used in dog management.
- Observe and report any health concerns or behavioural issues to senior staff promptly.
- Transporting dogs between our sites using our fleet of vehicles
- Be available for overnight on-call shifts on a rota basis. More information on this will be provided at the interview.

Skills
- Genuine passion for working with dogs.
- Previous experience with dog handling or training is advantageous but not essential; willingness to learn is key.
- Good organisational skills with the ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with dogs, colleagues, and clients.
- Patience, calmness, and a caring attitude towards animals of all temperaments.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and handle physically demanding tasks.
- Basic knowledge of canine behaviour and health is desirable but not mandatory; training will be provided.
