Norfolk Partnership Laboratory NPL is currently seeking a technician to join the well-equipped and experienced team at County Hall in Norwich on a full-time, permanent basis. NPL provides essential services within Norse Highways. This role, within the Pavement and Structures Team, includes carrying out pavement investigations, structural surveys, as well as assisting with core logging and laboratory testing, on behalf of our clients.
The Investigation of pavements and structures is part of vital surveys carried out by the team to ensure the road network is safe to use. The successful candidate will be working in dynamic, fast-moving construction-related environment.
Role Responsibilities:
- Carry out site and laboratory testing in accordance with the standards and requirements of the Quality System.
- Undertake Pavement and structural investigation activities under supervision of a Lead Technician/Project Engineer.
- Provide support to Project Engineers during pavement investigations on site, typically on a bespoke basis.
- Use surface and Sub-surface equipment within structural investigations.
- Preparing documentation as needed to support the investigations and reporting.
- Entering data into Pavement software to produce logs and other associated outputs.
- Collaborate with laboratory technicians and senior laboratory staff as appropriate to work to turnarounds ensuring time and financial targets met.
- Providing accurate test data on a range of construction materials, structural investigation and pavement investigations.
- Ensuring that allocated site and laboratory testing is carried out in line with instruction, training and will be able to complete routine tasks without direct supervision.
- Ensuring that all work is conducted in accordance with latest Health and Safety regulations and legislation.
- To undertake both laboratory and site testing using equipment in accordance with the standards and requirements of the Quality Systems as directed and to ascertain the basic physical properties of natural and manufactured materials encountered in Civil Engineering works.
- Ensure laboratory work-areas are kept clean and tidiness is maintained in apparatus storage areas for appropriate standards of health and safety to be met.
Our Successful Candidate:
You will be able to demonstrate a keen interest for working within the construction industry, ideally holding a CSCS card and Street Works Certificate.
Alongside this we also look for applicants to have:
- Hold GCSE at Grade 4/5 © or above in Maths, English and Science or equivalent.
- Experience in maintaining accurate data and records.
- Experience managing your own workload, multi-tasking and prioritising effectively.
- Ability to follow defined guidance thoroughly to ensure compliance with standards.
- Full UK Driving licence to meet travel requirements of the role, with the flexibility to stay away from home as and when required.
