Hours: 13 Hours fortnightly in the shift pattern:
Tuesday to Sunday 6:30 – 9:30
Tuesday to Friday 6:30 – 9:30 (3 hours)

Salary: £12.71 per hour
Summary:
The Cleaner is responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness, hygiene, and presentation across assigned areas. This role ensures a safe, tidy, and welcoming environment for staff, customers, and visitors.
You will be responsible for cleaning the public areas of the gallery including, but not exclusively, toilets, café, shop, cinema and meeting rooms where needed. All public pathways to these areas much also be kept clean and free of furniture and unnecessary items.
Main duties and responsibilities
Cleaning Duties
· Ensure the venue is presented to an excellent standard, carrying out general cleaning of all specified areas, reporting damage, fails and maintenance issues to the Technical Manager (Facilities) through the appropriate process.
· Ensure that all areas are cleaned and left in a safe and hygienic state ready for opening.
· Follow health and safety training and guidance, ensuring that COSHH and safety protocols are followed.
· Ensure the effective handover of information at the start and end of shift utilising daily report sheets, email communication etc.
Operations responsibility
· Be responsible for the opening or locking of the building, when on shift, including de-activating and activating alarm systems.
General
· Undertake any other cleaning duties as may be reasonably required by the Technical Manager (Facilities).
· Carry out responsibilities with due regard to the MK Gallery security, Health and Safety, Child Protection and Equality & Diversity Policies and Procedures at all times.
· The role involves physical activity, including lifting and moving refuse sacks, transporting cleaning equipment, and handling cleaning materials and stock. Team members are expected to follow safe manual‑handling practices and use appropriate equipment where required.
· Lone working policies apply, and cleaning staff are expected to follow important opening procedures to access different areas whilst following security protocols.
Person Specification:
Essential Skills
· Understanding of what constitutes excellent cleaning service.
· Excellent cleaning skills and experience.
· Able to communicate what cleaning stock needs ordering using a written order sheet
· Able to carry out health and safety training online with basic computer skills to access our training portal.
· Evidence of practising and encouraging high standards of security
· Understanding, commitment and ability to carry out duties in accordance with equality and diversity policies.
· Able to prioritise cleaning of different areas and work dynamically when areas need more attention.
· Happy and able to work in a physically demanding environment.
Desirable
· Experience with cleaning large public or educational buildings.
· Fire Warden training.
· Qualified first-aider.
· Understanding of health & safety issues particularly in relation to a public building.
· Understanding of the requirements set out in the Equality Act 2010.
· Knowledge and interest in art, music, film or contemporary culture.
