Job Overview
We're looking for an experienced and highly motivated Lead Dental Nurse to join our growing team at Archway Dental Callington, Cornwall. This is a key leadership role within our clinical team, combining hands-on patient care with team coordination and operational oversight. You'll provide exceptional chairside support, ensure compliance with CQC and infection control standards and play a vital role in maintaining our clinical excellence. You'll also take the lead in managing the day-day running of our nursing team, fostering a positive, efficient and supportive environment where everyone can succeed. Key Responsibilities of a Lead Dental Nurse
Clinical Support
- Provide high-quality chairside assistance to our dentists, hygienists, and therapists.
- Ensure best practice in infection prevention and control, adhering strictly to HTM 01-05 and CQC standards.
- Prepare and maintain clinical environments to a high standard of cleanliness, safety, and efficiency.
- Assist with specialist procedures where applicable (e.g. implants, sedation, cosmetic treatments).
Leadership & Team Coordination
- Supervise and support the dental nursing team, ensuring clinical excellence and a positive team culture.
- Organise staff rotas, manage absences/cover, and ensure adequate nursing support across the practice.
- Mentor new staff and oversee training of student dental nurses, ensuring compliance with GDC standards.
- Support the onboarding and induction of new clinical team members.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Monitor and maintain full compliance with CQC regulations and internal policies.
- Lead audits (e.g. infection control, radiography, clinical waste) and implement any required improvements.
- Ensure all clinical policies are up to date and staff are familiar with protocols and procedures.
Stock & Equipment Management
- Oversee ordering and stock control of clinical supplies and PPE to avoid shortages or wastage.
- Ensure all equipment is properly maintained, serviced, and ready for use.
- Liaise with suppliers and service engineers as needed.
Patient Care & Communication
- Support anxious or vulnerable patients with empathy and reassurance.
- Act as a point of escalation for clinical concerns raised by patients or staff.
- Promote a high standard of patient service and confidentiality at all times.
Practice Development
- Collaborate with the practice manager and clinicians to improve workflows and enhance patient experience.
- Contribute to staff meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and CPD planning.
