The Role
We are recruiting an Engineering Technician to take responsibility for prototype build, test execution and workshop operations.
The postholder will convert engineering designs into physical hardware through machining, fabrication, wiring and assembly, then plan and execute testing on completed builds. A core requirement of the role is producing test documentation to a standard that allows any engineer to reproduce the test from the record alone.
The role also carries ownership of the workshop, including stock control, tool control, health and safety compliance and maintenance of the 3D printer fleet.
This is a hands-on, workshop-based position reporting to the Head of Engineering.

Key Responsibilities
- Build, wire, machine and assemble prototypes, sub-assemblies and test rigs
- Plan, set up and execute testing on robots and sub-systems, on the bench and on test structures
- Produce complete written test records covering objective, configuration, raw data, results and conclusions
- Develop and improve company test templates, travellers and procedures
- Model fixtures, jigs, brackets and rig components in Fusion 360 and manufacture them by 3D printing or in-house fabrication
- Maintain the workshop in a safe, clean and operationally ready condition
- Manage stock control, consumables and tool control
- Maintain, service and repair the 3D printer fleet and manage filament stock
- Support production build, test and fulfilment activity as operational demand requires
- Feed test findings back into the design process
Essential Requirements
Practical engineering ability. Demonstrable competence with hand tools, workshop machinery, wiring and mechanical assembly.
CAD capability. Working proficiency in Fusion 360 or a comparable package, sufficient to model parts and assemblies and produce manufacturing-ready outputs. Candidates should be able to evidence parts they have designed and manufactured.
Documentation discipline. A consistent, self-managed approach to recording work. Test results, measurements, configurations and conclusions must be captured accurately and without prompting. This is a central requirement of the role rather than a secondary one.
Self-direction. The ability to identify and progress the next priority task independently within an agreed workload.
Flexibility. Willingness to work across engineering disciplines and to support production or fulfilment activity as business needs require.
Formal qualifications are not required. Applications are welcomed from apprenticeship-trained, self-taught and experienced workshop or test personnel. Relevant practical experience will be assessed on its own merits.
Desirable
- Electronics competence: wiring looms, connectors, schematic interpretation and basic fault diagnosis
- Experience with robotics, motor control or motion systems
- 3D printer maintenance and repair
- Test or NDT experience

Working Arrangements and Probation
This is a full time, on site position, 09:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday. The role is subject to a four-month probationary period with formal written reviews and defined performance objectives, which will be provided in advance of any offer.

Pay: £26,000.00-£32,000.00 per year
