We're looking for an exceptional Internal Communications & Engagement Manager to lead our colleague communications and engagement activity, ensuring colleagues understand our priorities, feel connected to our culture and have opportunities to shape the future of our charity.
This is a full-time permanent, national role with hybrid working. You will be required to work from our head office at least once a week, so our ideal candidate will be based within an hour's commute of Widnes, Cheshire.

You'll lead the delivery of communications and engagement activity that helps colleagues feel informed, connected and motivated. From organisation-wide communications and leadership events to colleague listening, recognition programmes and engagement campaigns, you'll play a central role in shaping colleague experience and ensuring every voice has the opportunity to be heard.
Working closely with senior leaders, support service teams and operational colleagues, you'll provide expert advice, deliver engaging communications and use colleague insight to drive continuous improvement. You'll help create meaningful opportunities for colleagues to influence decisions, strengthen culture and connect with our shared vision for the future.
You'll also lead our approach to colleague voice and engagement, overseeing activities such as engagement surveys, colleague listening initiatives and our GameChangers forum, ensuring feedback is translated into meaningful action that makes a real difference.
What you'll be doing:
- Leading the delivery of internal communications and engagement activity across the organisation
- Developing and delivering communication strategies that support organisational and workforce priorities
- Owning and delivering our regular internal communications cycle, including colleague communications, leadership updates, webinars and manager briefings
- Managing and continuously improving colleague communication channels, including the intranet, Viva Engage, email communications and You First magazine
- Creating engaging content and campaigns that bring our Best Lives, Bolder strategy to life
- Leading colleague listening activity, including engagement surveys, pulse surveys, focus groups and other feedback mechanisms
- Managing and developing our GameChangers colleague forum to ensure colleague insight is captured, shared and acted upon
- Leading reward, recognition and engagement initiatives, including colleague awards, awareness campaigns and wellbeing activity
- Providing trusted communications and engagement advice to leaders and stakeholders across the organisation
- Acting as a guardian of brand, tone of voice and communication standards
- Monitoring and evaluating communications and engagement activity, using data and insight to improve impact and effectiveness
- Leading, coaching and developing an Internal Communications & Engagement Specialist
What we're looking for:
We're looking for a confident, creative and strategic communications professional who is passionate about colleague engagement and committed to creating great colleague experiences.
You'll bring:
- Proven experience in an internal communications, engagement or employee experience role
- Experience developing and delivering communication and engagement strategies, campaigns and initiatives
- Experience leading colleague listening activity, including engagement surveys and insight analysis
- Experience developing recognition, engagement and culture-building programmes
- Excellent communication, writing and storytelling skills
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with confidence working alongside senior leaders
- The ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging and accessible communications
- Experience working across a dispersed workforce and engaging diverse audiences
- Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- The ability to interpret insight and data to inform decisions and improve outcomes
- A proactive, collaborative and solutions-focused approach
- The ability to switch seamlessly between strategic thinking and hands-on delivery
