We are looking for a Full-time permanent Trainee Pump Engineer role with Metro Rod, based in Cramlington. Salary plus paid overtime, Monday–Friday hours, full training provided, pension and life assurance included. Ideal for someone looking to start a long-term career in drainage and utilities. The successful person must have received some Electrical training or be a qualified electrician.

Metro Rod, the UK’s leading drainage company, is offering an excellent opportunity for a full-time, permanent Trainee Pump Engineer to join our growing team. This role is based from our Cramlington operation and is ideal for someone looking to learn a skilled trade with long-term career prospects.
No pump experience is required — full training will be provided.
What you’ll be doing
- Ensuring smooth running on site for our clients
- Covering maintenance, repairs, and problem-solving
- Learning industry skills and procedures through hands-on training
- Working as part of a professional, supportive team
This role is a to become a fully trained pump engineer within a short period.
What we’re looking for

- Good understanding of English and Maths
- Strong teamwork skills and reliability
- Commitment to delivering excellent customer service
- Clean driving licence (essential)
- Over 21 years of age (due to working hours and job risk elements)
Hours & Pay
- Monday to Friday: 8:30am – 5:00pm
- Salary: £26,000 - £34000 per year depending on experience/qualifications
- Overtime paid outside normal working hours
- Plenty of overtime available
