London Delivery Network (LDN) is seeking an experienced Fractional Finance Director to work directly with the Managing Director and strengthen the financial management of a growing logistics business.
We already have accounting/bookkeeping support, use Xero, and operate a rolling treasury forecast. We are now looking for someone capable of bringing proper Finance Director-level oversight to the business.
This is not a bookkeeping position. We are looking for someone commercially minded who can take financial and operational information and turn it into clear management insight, forecasts and recommendations.
The role will include:
- Reviewing our existing financial position, reporting and controls
- Developing and maintaining a robust 13-week cashflow/treasury forecast
- Establishing an effective weekly FD reporting process
- Reviewing customer and contract profitability
- Analysing gross margin and contribution
- Reviewing fleet, driver and operational costs
- Working-capital, debtor and creditor management
- Budgeting and rolling forecasting
- Reviewing management accounts and explaining significant variances
- Monitoring debt, finance commitments and liquidity
- Ensuring appropriate visibility of VAT, tax and other upcoming liabilities
- Identifying financial risks before they become cashflow problems
- Supporting pricing, investment, vehicle and other commercial decisions
- Developing a concise monthly management/board reporting pack
- Advising the Managing Director on the financial implications of business decisions
What we're looking for
We are particularly interested in someone who has previously worked as a Finance Director, CFO, Fractional FD or senior commercial finance professional within an owner-managed SME.
You should be comfortable operating in a business where cashflow, working capital and margins require active management rather than simply reporting historic results.
Strong experience with Xero, management accounts, cashflow forecasting and financial modelling is preferred.
Experience within logistics, transport, distribution, courier, fleet or another operationally intensive business would be advantageous, but is not essential.
Most importantly, we want someone who is prepared to challenge management and the numbers, identify problems and opportunities, and recommend practical actions.
Initial objective
Your first assignment will be to approach LDN as a newly appointed Finance Director.
We want you to understand the business, review our current financial information and rolling treasury, identify weaknesses or missing information, and establish what management should be reviewing daily, weekly and monthly.
From there, we would like to establish an ongoing fractional FD relationship.
