Job Description
As a heavy equipment mechanic, you will be responsible for repairing and maintaining a diverse fleet of vehicles. This includes troubleshooting malfunctions, determining the type and extent of repair required, repairing and maintaining automotive vehicles including material handling and construction equipment. Key duties involve maintaining a variety of systems such as gasoline and diesel engines, using diagnostic tools, ordering parts, and maintaining service records. This role requires a strong commitment to safety and assisting others on the team.
Qualifications and Key skills
· Must hold an NVQ level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or similar
· A valid UK Category B driver’s license
1. Knowledge of various heavy and light vehicles and equipment for troubleshooting, repair, overhaul, and modification of systems.
2. Knowledge of safety practices and environmental regulations concerning hazardous materials.
3. Skilled in troubleshooting and repairing a wide range of heavy and light vehicles using various hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
4. Possesses the ability to interpret and apply technical manuals, schematics, and specifications for equipment maintenance and overhaul, combined with strong communication skills for training others and maintaining accurate records
Conditions of employment
1. You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations. This position may also be coded as mission essential.
2. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft, and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training.
3. You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period.
4. Work hours are flexible, subject to mission needs and policy, and may include overtime, shift work, evenings, weekends, or holidays. Other duties, appropriate to the grade and skillset, may be assigned
5. You must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
6. For this position you will be require passing a pre-employment physical. This will be conducted at RAF Lakenheath.
7. Must receive training on the handling and disposition of hazardous materials.
8. Local National Direct Hire (LNDH) positions are not regularly drug tested, but testing may occur with reasonable suspicion or after a safety incident.
