Mencap runs and manages homes across the UK for people with a learning disability, many of which have outdoor spaces that need maintaining. These are important spaces for the people we support to get outdoors and interact with nature, and each other. Your time and skills as a Gardening Volunteer will make a big difference to these people enjoying this special space.
Our service in Poole is home to 7 people who would love to make full use of their outdoor space. You don't need to be able to make a regular commitment, whatever you can manage is fine!
It is a small garden that just needs a little care. The residents are very friendly, they may like to help out!
As a volunteer, you wouldn't need to be an expert gardener, but you will need some gardening experience and be able to work independently to keep the garden tidy.
If you think this sounds like something you could see yourself doing, get in touch!
As a volunteer you could be doing some of the below:
- Pruning and cutting back shrubs
- Creating flower beds
- Cutting the grass, weeding, and potting planters
- Having conversations around the next project the people we support would like to see in their gardens
