Transport Supervisor
Location: Swanley, Kent
Hours: 9:30am–7:00pm, Monday to Friday
Job type: Full-time, permanent
Working arrangement: Mainly on-site, with some home working negotiable for route planning
About the role
We are looking for an experienced Transport Supervisor to manage the day-to-day operation of our drivers and transport department.
Working closely with our Lead Driver and Warehouse team, you will plan routes for a mixed fleet of vans and HGVs, manage driver queries and coordinate couriers and same-day deliveries.
This role does not include managing warehouse dispatch, but you will work closely with the Warehouse team to plan the orders passed across for delivery.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and optimise daily routes for vans and HGVs
- Work with the Lead Driver on driver and vehicle allocation
- Manage drivers, holidays, absence and day-to-day queries
- Assist with driver recruitment and onboarding
- Coordinate couriers, same-day services and specialist carriers
- Respond to delivery queries, delays and failed deliveries
- Complete transport administration and maintain accurate records
- Support the Compliance team with vehicle servicing, inspections and planned maintenance
Who we are looking for
This role could suit either:
- An ambitious driver or route planner looking to step into a supervisory position, take on more responsibility and progress towards becoming a Transport Manager; or
- An experienced driver and route planner looking to apply their practical delivery knowledge within a more office-based role.
You must have strong route-planning and geographical knowledge, with at least two to three years’ experience planning routes for multiple vehicle sizes.
Requirements
- Route-planning experience is essential
- Experience driving or coordinating commercial vehicles
- Experience using a Transport Management System
- Confident planning routes for both vans and HGVs
- Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills
- Able to manage changing priorities and make decisions under pressure
- Experience within construction wholesale or distribution would be advantageous
