Location: Cambridge, with regular work in London and travel to client and event sites as required
Reporting to: Operations Manager / Directors
Hours: Full-time, fixed but variable depending on project requirements
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
Role Purpose
My client is looking for a reliable, confident and hands-on Driver to join their busy events and rigging business. You will be responsible for the safe driving, loading and unloading of our 7.5 tonne vehicle, delivering and collecting equipment for projects and events across London and beyond.
A meaningful proportion of the work takes place in London, so you will need to be comfortable and confident driving a large vehicle in and out of the city. Hours are fixed but variable in nature: when busy, this may mean long days and occasional overnight stays; at other times, you will support the wider warehouse and equipment operation.
Key Responsibilities
● Drive the Company's 7.5 tonne vehicle safely and legally, including regularly in and out of central London.
● Load and unload vehicles safely, efficiently and in line with manual handling and safe systems of work.
● Plan routes and journey timings, taking account of London traffic, congestion charge, ULEZ and site access restrictions.
● Carry out daily vehicle walkaround checks and report any defects promptly.
● Complete accurate delivery, collection and vehicle paperwork.
● Undertake occasional overnight stays where project schedules require early starts or late finishes.
● Support warehouse operations, including stores management, packing and preparing equipment, during quieter periods.
● Work closely with the Warehouse Manager and Operations team to ensure equipment is ready and vehicles are scheduled efficiently.
● Ensure the vehicle is kept clean, roadworthy and properly maintained, reporting any servicing needs.
● Follow Company health and safety procedures and safe systems of work at all times.
● Represent the Company professionally when on client and event sites.
● Carry out other reasonable duties associated with the driving, warehouse and logistics operation.
Skills and Experience
Essential
● A full, current UK driving licence, together with either a valid category C1 entitlement, or a licence issued before 1 January 1997 which includes 7.5 tonne vehicle entitlement.
● Proven experience driving a 7.5 tonne (or similar large) vehicle.
● Confident and comfortable driving a large vehicle in and out of central London.
● Experience loading and unloading vehicles safely.
● A flexible and adaptable approach to working hours, given the variable nature of project work, including occasional long days and overnight stays.
● Willingness to support warehouse duties, such as picking, packing and stock control, during quieter periods.
● Good organisational and time-management skills, particularly when acting as project lead.
● A practical, hands-on and proactive approach.
● Able to work independently and as part of a team.
Due to the requirements of the Company's motor insurance policy, drivers must currently be aged 25 or over.
Desirable
● Experience within events, production, rigging, construction, hire or another equipment-based environment.
● Counterbalance Forklift Truck (FLT) certification.
● Knowledge of London driving restrictions, including ULEZ, congestion charge and site access requirements.
Health & Safety
The role involves driving a large vehicle and handling equipment which can be heavy and bulky. Appropriate driving standards, manual handling techniques and safe systems of work must be followed at all times.
The Company will provide training in its operating procedures, safe systems of work and any other mandatory health and safety training required for the role.
