Our Emporium of Stories is an enchanting story destination with Book Nook, Apothecary to the Magical shop, Ever After role play area, Feastery Cafe (serving story-themed food and drink) and secret doors that hide beanstalks and writing/theatre spaces, where imaginations are ignited for children and young people to bring stories to life.

The role in brief:
We are looking for an organised and enthusiastic Kitchen Porter to work in our wonderful cafe called ‘the Feastery’ at Grimm and Co’s Emporium of Stories in Rotherham. The successful candidate will be part of the team delivering story-themed, magical (and mortal) dining experience, for this nationally significant arts organisation.
As a Kitchen Porter, you will support the catering team to deliver a unique dining experience destination. The Feastery is currently growing to be a significant events and conferences destination too. It is envisaged that we will be at the heart of the community, offering a place for the sharing and creation of new stories, memories and building new traditions.

Key Responsibilities - Kitchen Porter - Saturdays
Job description:
- Support the catering team to ensure high quality experiences for all.
- Good customer service and communication skills.
- Cleaning and sterilising countertops, kitchen walls, stoves, ovens, grills and sinks
- Cleaning the entire kitchen and service areas and maintaining cleanliness and organisation throughout.
- Maintaining the food storage areas like freezers, refrigerators and dry stores.
- Receiving and organising deliveries and keeping track of stock levels.
- Washing and drying dirty dishes like cutlery, pots, cutting boards and pans promptly to keep up with kitchen demands.
- Removing kitchen waste from waste containers and disposing of them properly.
- Cleaning and maintaining cooking equipment like cookers, pots and food mixers.
- Supporting the kitchen staff in basic food preparation like cutting ingredients, peeling and washing food items.
- Supporting service staff with clearing tables, topping up cutlery and ensuring cleanliness of customer facing areas.
- Always adhere to all current Health & Safety and COSHH procedures.
- Project a smart and professional image at all times by adhering to the rules regarding grooming, wearing of uniform and maintaining high levels of personal hygiene.
- Where relevant and required for the role, attend any suitable training and development sessions which may include First Aid, Safeguarding, and Food Safety.
- Work in a way that improves equity, inclusivity and relevance in our catering provision to ensure all of Grimm & Co is fit for purpose and engages communities.
- Excitement and enthusiasm in promoting Grimm & Co’s vision, aims and objectives to share our story and link our work to local strategy and needs.
- Support the wider team, as and when required, with any other reasonable duties in the successful delivery of the charity’s aims and objectives.
Person Specification:
Essential qualifications and experience:
· Previous experience in a kitchen environment is beneficial but not required; training will be provided.
· Passion for the culinary industry and willingness to learn.
· Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
· Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
· Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings and weekends.
Desirable experience:
· Experience of working in a busy café or restaurant environment.
· The ability to motivate and support other team members and volunteers.
· Experience in supporting the smooth operation of a kitchen including – maintaining high standards of hygiene, food safety and health & safety.
Good organisational, administrative, communication and digital literacy skills.
