Location: Home-Based Tuition – Waltham Abbey, EN9
Hours: 15 Hours Per Week, Term Time
Start Date: September 2026
Subjects: English, Maths & Science
About the Role
Study Mind is seeking an experienced SEN Tutor to provide 1:1 face-to-face tuition for an academically able Year 7 student with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and ADHD.
This provision will focus on maintaining academic engagement across English, Maths and Science while supporting attention, emotional regulation and confidence. The longer-term aim is to help the student progress towards reintegration into education.
About the Student
Our student is an academically capable young person with particular strengths in literacy, vocabulary and factual learning. His primary barriers relate to accessing learning consistently rather than academic ability.
He can become distracted, particularly when learning at home, and may leave the learning space to access preferred activities. He responds well to positive incentives, movement and planned breaks, so the tutor will need to balance clear structure with flexibility and patience.
The Role Will Include
- Delivering 15 hours of 1:1 face-to-face tuition each week.
- Teaching KS3 English, Maths and Science.
- Completing informal baseline assessments during the opening sessions.
- Providing structured teaching with regular prompting and redirection.
- Supporting attention, concentration, communication and independent learning.
- Working towards increased educational engagement and future reintegration.
Ideal Tutor Experience
We're looking for someone with strong experience supporting:
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
- ADHD and significant attention difficulties.
- Emotional regulation and anxiety around change.
- Sensory processing and regulation needs.
- Communication and social interaction difficulties.
- KS3 English, Maths and Science.
Learning Approach
The successful tutor will:
- Provide a highly structured, predictable and autism-informed learning environment.
- Use visual timetables and a consistent session structure.
- Break learning into short, achievable task cycles.
- Incorporate regular movement and sensory regulation breaks.
- Use positive incentives to maintain motivation, such as earning time for preferred activities.
- Remain patient if the student becomes distracted or temporarily leaves the learning space.
- Gradually increase academic demands as trust, engagement and tolerance develop.
Important Requirements
The tutor must be experienced working with young people with ASD and ADHD and confident providing consistent 1:1 support within a home environment.
The family would also like a tutor who is culturally sensitive and respectful of their Jewish identity, particularly given their concerns around antisemitism and family safety.
A responsible adult will be working from home and present within the property throughout tuition.
Tuition Details
Location: Home tuition in the EN9 3 area of Waltham Abbey. The property is in a small residential close with very limited public transport, so applicants should consider their ability to travel reliably to the placement.

- Tuesday: 9:30am–1:30pm
- Wednesday: 9:30am–1:30pm

If you're an experienced SEN Tutor with strong ASD/ADHD experience who can combine structured KS3 teaching with patience, flexibility and a relationship-led approach, we'd love to hear from you.
