Role Overview
We are seeking a motivated and knowledgeable Sessional Russian Tutor to support students in preparing for A Level Russian examinations. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality tuition, helping learners develop their skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, while building confidence and exam readiness.
This is a flexible, sessional role ideal for an experienced language tutor, teacher, or postgraduate with strong subject expertise.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver engaging and effective small-group or one-to-one tutoring sessions tailored to A Level Russian specifications
Support students in all core language skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing
Prepare students for exam components, including translation, essay writing, and oral examinations
Provide targeted support based on individual student needs and attainment levels
Develop and/or adapt teaching materials aligned with exam board requirements (e.g. AQA, Edexcel)
Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback to support improvement
Encourage independent learning and effective revision strategies
Maintain accurate records of attendance and learner progress
Liaise, where appropriate, with programme coordinators or teaching staff
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
Degree in Russian, Modern Languages, or a closely related field
Near-native or fluent proficiency in Russian
Experience teaching or tutoring Russian, ideally at secondary or post-16 level
Strong understanding of A Level Russian curriculum and assessment methods
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to motivate and support learners with diverse needs
Strong organisational and planning skills
Desirable Criteria
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or recognised teaching qualification
Experience preparing students specifically for A Level examinations
Familiarity with UK exam boards (AQA, Edexcel)
Experience working in higher education, further education, or outreach programmes
