We're recruiting a Planning Officer Level 2 (Grade H) to support Council's Planning & Building Control service. This is a key role within Development Management, ideal for someone with strong planning knowledge, organisational skills, and the ability to deliver high-quality outcomes in a busy public service environment.
About the Role
As a Planning Officer, you'll contribute positively to the Planning and Building Control service, working across different specialisms through a rotation programme. You'll ensure compliance with council priorities, statutory legislation, and best practice while delivering efficient and cost-effective services.
What You'll Be Doing
- Leading on general planning casework and contributing to service delivery
- Managing planning applications, appeals, and enforcement matters
- Supporting colleagues across different planning specialisms
- Ensuring compliance with statutory legislation, council policies, and procedures
- Representing the council at meetings, hearings, and site visits
- Contributing to projects and programmes allocated by senior management
- Promoting best practice and facilitating change across the service
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone proactive, organised, and confident in planning processes.
You'll ideally have:
- Experience in planning casework and development management
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Good communication skills and ability to work with stakeholders
- Knowledge of planning legislation, policies, and procedures
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- IT proficiency and ability to use planning systems effectively
