About MAX Automotive Group Ltd
Due to continued growth of our commercial vehicle division, MAX Automotive Group Ltd is looking for an experienced Mobile HGV Technician / HGV Mechanic to join our expanding team.
This is a predominantly mobile position supporting HGV and commercial fleet operators with planned maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, repairs and breakdown assistance.
You'll operate from a fully equipped MAX mobile service vehicle, attending customer depots, operating centres and roadside locations.
We're looking for an experienced HGV technician with a proven track record who can work independently, diagnose faults properly and take ownership of getting vehicles repaired and back on the road.
The Role
Your work will include:
- HGV servicing and scheduled maintenance
- PMI / safety inspections
- Trailer servicing, inspections and repairs
- Mobile fleet maintenance
- HGV diagnostics and fault finding
- Electrical fault diagnosis
- Air brake system diagnosis and repairs
- Brake repairs
- Suspension and steering
- Driveline repairs
- Engine-related repairs
- DEF/AdBlue and emissions system diagnostics
- MOT preparation and defect rectification
- Breakdown diagnosis and roadside repairs
- Preventative maintenance
- Digital inspection sheets and job cards
- Identifying and reporting additional work
- Liaising with customers and fleet managers
Although predominantly mobile, you'll also have the support of our Oldbury HGV workshop for jobs requiring workshop facilities.
Proven HGV Experience Required
This position requires a proven professional track record working on HGVs and commercial vehicles.
We're looking for somebody capable of attending a vehicle independently, diagnosing the problem and determining the correct repair without needing constant supervision.
You should have strong experience in:
✓ HGV servicing and maintenance

✓ Air braking systems
✓ Electrical fault diagnosis
✓ Suspension and steering
✓ MOT preparation
✓ Commercial vehicle repairs
✓ Trailer maintenance
✓ Manufacturer repair procedures
✓ Digital inspection and maintenance records
✓ Working independently at customer locations
Diagnostic ability is particularly important to us.
We're not looking for somebody who simply replaces parts until the fault disappears. We want technicians who understand how to test, diagnose and repair commercial vehicles correctly.
£10 Productivity Bonus
We believe productive technicians should be rewarded.
In addition to your basic hourly rate, we operate an uncapped productivity bonus paying £10 for every additional productive hour achieved.
For example, where additional productive/billable hours are achieved above the hours worked, those qualifying additional hours are rewarded at £10 per hour.
Quality and first-time fix always come first.
Comeback, rework or incorrectly completed work does not qualify towards the productivity bonus.
The scheme isn't about rushing repairs. It's designed to reward skilled technicians who can work efficiently, maintain high standards and help us reduce customer vehicle downtime.
Qualifications & Experience
Ideally, you'll have:
- NVQ Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair or equivalent
- Proven HGV/commercial vehicle experience
- Full UK driving licence
- Strong diagnostic and electrical skills
- Experience completing HGV safety inspections
A Class 1 or Class 2 HGV licence would be advantageous but isn't essential.
Trailer, tail-lift, tachograph or additional diagnostic experience would also be beneficial.

When you attend a customer's vehicle, we want you to establish the problem, communicate what's required and do everything reasonably possible to get that vehicle safely back into service.
