About Walford ConstructionWalford Construction is a growing, well-established contractor operating across Greater Manchester and the North West, delivering high-quality residential and refurbishment projects in a structured and professional manner.We are seeking an experienced Freelance Site Manager to take day-to-day responsibility for our live sites in and around Greater Manchester, with a clear long-term programmes and further projects planned (ranging from £100k - £1M per project). We undertake between 3-5 live projects at a time all ran from the project management office based team.The RoleThis role is primarily focused on the day-to-day site management of live projects including residential builds and renovations along with smaller commercial projects.Key ResponsibilitiesLive Projects
- Full day-to-day management of the site
- Managing subcontractors, direct labour, and suppliers
- Coordinating works to maintain programme, quality, and site standards
- Ensuring the site is run in a professional, organised, and safe manner
- Acting as the on-site lead for a high-profile bespoke residential builds
- Communication between office project managers and on site foremen to each site.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensuring all works are carried out in full compliance with current Health & Safety legislation, company policies, and site-specific requirements
- Managing, reviewing, and enforcing site inductions, RAMS (Risk Assessments & Method Statements), toolbox talks, and permit-to-work systems, ensuring all personnel are fully briefed, competent, and compliant
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date site records, compliance documentation, and audit trails, supporting inspections, audits, and ongoing regulatory requirements
Quality & Delivery
- Delivering works to a standard appropriate for a high-end bespoke residential project
- Carrying out quality checks, inspections, and snagging
- Managing inspections and sign-offs with consultants, Building Control, and client representatives
Communication & Coordination
- Working closely with the Project Manager and Senior Manager
- Liaising with site formen, subcontractors, suppliers, and the client team as required
- Reporting progress, risks, and issues clearly and proactively
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience as a Site Manager within the construction industry
- Strong organisational and leadership skills
- A professional, calm, and detail-focused approach
- Confidence running a site independently
- Whilst high-end residential project experience is desired, we are also open to speaking with candidates who have transferable skills from other sectors within the construction industry
- Experience working for SME contractors preferred
