Job description
Ready to make a real impact in the fight against fraud?
Join us as a Financial Crime Analytics Senior Consultant and play a pivotal role in protecting millions of members by helping us stay ahead of increasingly sophisticated threats. In this position, you’ll apply your expertise in SAS and analytics to transform and optimise existing processes, rework existing jobs and build robust, scalable solutions that drive smarter fraud detection and prevention.
Working within our Fraud Analytics team, you’ll collaborate closely with subject matter experts to analyse large, complex datasets, update and enhance existing code and processes and translate insights into actionable strategies for key stakeholders. Your ability to manipulate data, develop efficient queries, and modernise analytical processes will directly contribute to reducing losses while maintaining an excellent customer experience.
This is a high-impact opportunity within our Economic Crime function for someone with strong technical capability, curiosity, and a passion for problem-solving. If you thrive in a collaborative environment and are motivated by continuous learning and innovation, you’ll have the chance to influence outcomes across the business and wider industry while helping to safeguard our members against fraud and scams.
This is a 12-month Fixed Term Contract opportunity.
At Nationwide, we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK-wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.
For this job, you'll be assigned to our nearest regional hub. There will be a need to regularly connect with colleagues for collaboration events in one of our office sites. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works.
If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.
What you’ll be doing
As a Senior Consultant within our Analytics function, you will act as a SAS subject matter expert, leading the development and optimisation of existing processes as we transition to SAS Viya. You will collaborate closely with stakeholders to shape meaningful, data‑driven decisions.
Using your expertise in SAS and working confidently with large datasets, you will build robust analytical solutions that uncover trends and generate actionable insights. Your work will play a key role in strengthening our fraud prevention strategies, helping us stay ahead of emerging threats and protect our members.
About you
We’re seeking a technically strong, naturally curious professional with a passion for problem-solving to play a key role in transforming and optimising our SAS landscape as we migrate to SAS Viya. You’ll lead the evolution of existing SAS process flows, modernising legacy code and delivering efficient, scalable analytics solutions that strengthen our fraud detection capabilities, while working consultatively with stakeholders to interpret complex data, uncover trends, and drive actionable insights, alongside supporting and developing others by sharing best practices and contributing to a high-performing team culture.
For this role, you will have:
Considerable experience in coding with SAS/SAS Viya within an analytical environment, including transforming, migrating, and optimising existing processes, as well as re‑engineering jobs for improved performance and scalability.
Proven experience in the transformation and optimisation of legacy code and processes
Strong data manipulation and analysis skills, with experience handling large datasets to identify fraud trends and present insights to stakeholders
The ability to act as a trusted consultant on fraud subject matter, both internally and externally
Experience mentoring and coaching junior team members on best practices
A logical, solutions-focused approach to problem-solving, with the confidence to recommend and implement improvements

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
