The Opportunity
We are currently seeking an Associate for our EMEA Infrastructure & Natural Resources team. Based in London the successful candidate will work as a member of a small team, analysing potential investment opportunities and executing transactions. They will also be involved with existing portfolio companies and work with management teams to assist in shaping strategy and implementing value-enhancing initiatives including mergers and acquisitions, debt refinancing, budgeting and strategic projects. The Associate will contribute to a team culture where multiple investment groups will collaborate to effectively cover the market.
Who you’ll work with
You will be joining our London office, where you will work in a dynamic team-based environment, directly supporting senior team members across all infrastructure sectors and geographic regions, with a primary focus on the EMEA region. This role offers the opportunity to develop your investment acumen and build strategic relationships across global markets.
Infrastructure and Natural Resources ("INR") consists of a team of over 80 highly specialized private equity investment professionals, with offices in Toronto, London, Singapore, Mumbai and an additional presence in Santiago, Chile. Currently, INR leads a geographically diverse portfolio of approximately C$47 billion with infrastructure and natural resources assets in North America, South America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
Our Infrastructure mandate focuses on high quality assets that provide critical services to society with defensive investment characteristics and low return volatility. This includes investing in sectors such as renewable energy, electric and water utilities, airports, ports, and toll roads. The Natural Resources mandate targets direct exposure to commodities in the mining, agriculture, timberland, aquaculture, and other resource-based sectors to provide cash flow, inflation protection and diversification.
What you’ll do
- Employ sophisticated financial modelling tools to analyse investment opportunities;

Identify key value drivers and financial risks and perform related sensitivity and scenario analysis;

Assist in the due diligence process and incorporate the findings into a financial model;

Assist in the financial analysis required to raise third-party financing for acquisitions;

Work closely with external advisors, consultants and partners to assess risks and submit competitive bids under tight timelines;

Prepare presentations, reports, and investment recommendations to senior management and, where applicable, the Board of OTPP;

Review and analyse financial reports, budgets, board books and other information prepared by management of our portfolio companies;

Work with portfolio company management to maintain a financial model that can be used to monitor and value the company and to analyse strategic issues;

Conduct research and analysis and develop action plans on matters affecting existing investments including those relating to tax, regulation, law, and competitive position; and

Support the preparation of internal annual valuations.
What you’ll need

2+ years related work experience, preferably in investment banking or private equity

Demonstrated experience in the infrastructure sector, with a strong understanding of core sub-sectors such as energy, transportation, digital infrastructure, utilities, and social infrastructure

Deep familiarity with infrastructure industry dynamics, regulatory environments, and the underlying characteristics of infrastructure assets

An undergraduate degree in business, finance, economics or mathematics with a strong academic record; technical degrees, such as in engineering, will also be considered

Experience in the investment process, including conducting due diligence, arranging debt financing and negotiating documentation

Excellent analytical and quantitative skills and ability to perform in-depth, critical analysis

Advanced skills in Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Good communications skills, both oral and written with superior presentation skills; Strong proficiency in written and verbal English

Team player with strong interpersonal skills, able to establish and build relationships

Self-motivated, and possess unquestioned personal and professional integrity

Ability to meet tight timelines and operate in a highly competitive and demanding work environment

Fluency in other European languages is considered an asset
