Title: On-site IT Technician

Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week

We are looking for an On-site IT Technician to join our team and provide outstanding technical support and customer service to our education customers.
This is a hands-on, school-based role where you will work directly with staff and students, resolving technical issues, maintaining IT equipment and supporting the reliable day-to-day operation of school technology environments.
THE ROLE
As an On-site IT Technician, you will work closely with our Service Desk and technical teams to deliver a high-quality managed IT support service across our education customers.
You will be responsible for providing first-class technical support to school-based users, resolving hardware and software issues, carrying out routine maintenance and assisting with technology deployments and projects.
You will also play an important role in building strong relationships with our customers and ensuring that issues are handled professionally, efficiently and with a customer-first approach.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Support
- Provide hands-on technical support to school staff and students, resolving hardware, software and connectivity issues.
- Investigate, diagnose and resolve technical issues in line with Dataspire processes and service standards.
- Work closely with the Service Desk to ensure service calls are progressed and resolved effectively.
- Support workstations, laptops and associated hardware and software.
- Install and configure software and applications as directed by the Service Desk.
- Deploy workstation and laptop images as required.
- Restore workstation and laptop images where necessary.
- Diagnose and replace faulty hardware and components.
- Test and replace network, USB and other cables as required.
- Support printers, including diagnosing basic hardware issues, managing print queues and replacing consumables.
- Support peripheral devices including scanners, USB devices and graphic tablets.
- Support interactive whiteboards, projectors and other classroom technology.
- Provide basic support for wireless access points and network connections.
- Carry out routine hardware and software maintenance.
- Complete troubleshooting and technical support tasks across supported infrastructure.
School IT Operations
- Complete routine service checks and evening checks as directed by the Service Desk.
- Carry out scheduled system and equipment checks to help maintain reliable IT services.
- Complete software installations and re-installations on workstations and laptops.
- Support the installation and reinstallation of school management systems, including SIMS/CMIS where required.
- Maintain appropriate antivirus protection, report potential infections and carry out remedial action as directed.
- Complete backup media rotation in accordance with agreed schedules and procedures.
- Monitor and report equipment breakages, vandalism, recurring faults and other issues to the Service Desk.
- Identify recurring problems and provide feedback to the Service Desk to support continuous improvement.
- Maintain accurate records and technical documentation in accordance with Dataspire processes.
Project & Deployment Support
- Assist with workstation and laptop rollout projects, particularly during new customer implementations.
- Support new technology deployments and changes as directed by the Service Desk, Project Management or technical teams.
- Assist with system audits and technical discovery activities.
- Support project delivery alongside Project Managers and Technical Consultants.
- Complete technical tasks within agreed timescales and to the required standard.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation as required.
Customer Service
- Provide a professional, approachable and customer-focused service at all times.
- Communicate technical information clearly and appropriately to staff and students with varying levels of technical knowledge.
- Take ownership of issues and ensure users are kept informed throughout the support process.
- Build positive working relationships with school staff and colleagues.
- Represent Dataspire professionally while working on customer sites.
- Follow all relevant Dataspire policies, procedures and security requirements.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We're looking for someone who combines strong technical ability with excellent customer service skills.
You will ideally have:
- Significant experience working as an IT Technician or in a similar technical support role.
- Experience working within an MSP, IT services provider or other multi-customer technical environment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Experience supporting Windows workstations, laptops and common peripherals.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- The ability to work independently while knowing when to escalate issues.
- Good organisation skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- A practical, hands-on approach to technical problem solving.
- The confidence to work directly with teachers, school leaders, staff and students.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE
It would be advantageous if you have:
- Previous experience working in schools or multi-academy trusts.
- Experience supporting education-specific systems and technology.
- Knowledge of DfE standards and guidance.
- Awareness of NCSC guidance and Cyber Essentials.
- An understanding of safeguarding requirements within education.
- Experience supporting classroom technology such as interactive whiteboards and projectors.
- Relevant IT qualifications or vendor certifications.
