The Role
We are seeking a dedicated and professional Funeral Operative to join our team in St Leonards-on-Sea.
The Funeral Operative is a vital role within our funeral operations team, responsible for ensuring funeral services are delivered with dignity, care, and professionalism. The role involves supporting all aspects of funeral operations, including vehicle preparation and maintenance, deceased care, coffin preparation, pall-bearing, driving, and participation in the on-call rota.
You will work closely with colleagues to ensure every service is carried out smoothly, respectfully, and to the highest standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing the highest level of care and dignity for the deceased
- Cleaning and maintaining funeral vehicles to an exceptional standard
- Carrying out removals of the deceased in accordance with company procedures
- Preparing the deceased (excluding embalming) in line with policies and procedures
- Preparing coffins and ensuring all funeral arrangements are completed accurately
- Acting as a pall-bearer and driving funeral vehicles during services
- Maintaining a clean, hygienic, and safe working environment
- Updating care information accurately within company systems
- Managing workloads effectively and supporting daily operations
- Participating in the out-of-hours telephone and removal rota
- Attending training and following health and safety procedures
- Maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times
About You
- Caring, respectful, and professional in your approach
- Excellent communication skills and able to work effectively as part of a team
- Reliable, organised, and able to manage changing priorities
- Comfortable undertaking physical duties, including manual handling and pall-bearing
- Holds a full, clean driving licence
- Able to maintain a smart appearance and represent the company professionally
