About the Role
We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to join our finance team and support the day-to-day running of the accounts function.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone with strong bookkeeping fundamentals who enjoys working with numbers, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring financial transactions are processed correctly and on time.
The ideal candidate will be AAT qualified or currently studying towards AAT and looking to develop their accounting career within a growing business.
Key ResponsibilitiesBookkeeping & Transaction Processing
- Maintain accurate financial records within Xero
- Process purchase invoices and supplier payments
- Raise sales invoices and assist with credit control activities
- Ensure all transactions are posted accurately and promptly
- Maintain organised financial records and supporting documentation
Bank Reconciliations
- Perform daily and weekly bank reconciliations
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies promptly
- Ensure all balances reconcile accurately
- Maintain clear audit trails and supporting schedules
Accounts Administration
- Process employee expenses and company card transactions
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
- Reconcile supplier statements
- Assist with cash flow monitoring and reporting
- Maintain accurate customer and supplier account records
Month-End Support
- Assist with month-end reconciliations
- Support accruals, prepayments, and journal postings
- Prepare supporting schedules for management accounts
- Assist with VAT return preparation
- Support the Financial Controller with ad hoc finance projects
Ideal Candidate BackgroundExperience
- Minimum 1-3 years' experience in a bookkeeping or accounts assistant role
- AAT Level 3 or Level 4 qualified, or actively studying towards AAT
- Previous experience with bank reconciliations and bookkeeping
- Experience working within an SME environment advantageous
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
Technical Skills
- Xero experience essential
- Good Excel skills
- Comfortable working with financial systems and large volumes of transactions
- Strong numerical and reconciliation abilities
