Assistant Manager – The Old Post Office Tearoom
Newtown Linford, Leicestershire
£32,000 per year | Full-time | 5 days per week
A proper hospitality management role in a successful independent business.
We're looking for an experienced, warm and capable Assistant Manager to join the team at The Old Post Office Tearoom in Newtown Linford.
We're an established, busy independent café opposite Bradgate Park, and we're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys hospitality: someone who notices the details, looks after their team, loves giving customers a great experience and takes pride in running a really good café.
This isn't a role where you'll spend your day in an office. We're looking for a hands-on manager who is happy leading from the floor, making coffee, helping the team and getting stuck in when it's busy – while always keeping an eye on the bigger picture.
The role
You'll take responsibility for the day-to-day running of The Old Post Office, working alongside our experienced wider management team.
You'll be responsible for:
- Leading and motivating the team during service
- Creating a friendly, positive working environment
- Maintaining excellent customer-service standards
- Keeping service organised and efficient when we're busy
- Ensuring consistently high standards of coffee, food and presentation
- Opening and closing
- Allocating staff and managing breaks
- Coaching and developing team members
- Supporting new starters and training
- Dealing confidently and professionally with customer queries
- Maintaining excellent cleanliness and presentation
- Working closely with our kitchen team
- Helping identify and solve problems before they become problems
Who we're looking for
Hospitality management or strong supervisory experience is important, but we're just as interested in how you work and lead people.
You'll probably be someone who:
- Genuinely enjoys working with customers
- Is naturally organised and calm under pressure
- Notices what needs doing without being asked
- Leads by example rather than from the sidelines
- Can maintain standards while keeping the team positive
- Is comfortable giving constructive feedback
- Has common sense and good judgement
- Is reliable and takes ownership
- Enjoys developing other people
- Wants to become part of an independent business rather than simply find their next job
Barista experience would be an advantage, although we can provide training.
Working pattern
This is a five-day-per-week role.
Weekend working is an important part of hospitality and will be required, but we don't believe good hospitality professionals should have to give up every weekend indefinitely.
Our management team shares weekend responsibilities, with the aim of providing one full weekend off approximately every four weeks, alongside other weekends where you may work one or both days.
Rotas are planned in advance.
What we offer
- £32,000 salary
- Full-time, permanent position
- 5-day working week
- Regular full weekends off within the management rota
- Support from an established Manager working across our two sites
- Genuine responsibility for your café
- Training and development
- Opportunities to progress as the business develops
- A friendly independent environment where good people and good ideas are valued
- Staff benefits and discounts
- A beautiful location opposite Bradgate Park
Important
Due to our locations and the requirement to occasionally work across our two Leicestershire sites, you must be able to drive and have access to your own transport.
If you're an experienced hospitality professional who loves being part of a busy café, enjoys leading people and wants somewhere you can make a genuine difference, we'd really like to hear from you.
Please apply with your CV and tell us a little about why this role appeals to you.
