About Us
The Royal Oak is one of Lewes’ busiest pubs, renowned for live sport, a great atmosphere, quality food and drinks, and excellent customer service. We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Assistant Manager to join our management team and help drive the business forward.
The Role
Working closely with the General Manager and Owner, you will play a key role in the day-to-day running of the pub. You will be responsible for leading shifts, supporting and motivating the team, and ensuring our high standards are maintained at all times.
This is a hands-on role that requires confidence, initiative, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting the General Manager and Owner in the daily operation of the pub
- Leading and managing shifts across both bars and customer areas
- Ensuring excellent customer service is delivered at all times
- Training, developing and motivating team members
- Managing staff performance and maintaining team standards
- Handling customer enquiries and resolving issues professionally
- Opening and closing the business when required
- Maintaining cleanliness, health & safety, and licensing standards
- Supporting stock control and cellar operations where required
- Ensuring the pub operates efficiently during busy sporting events and peak trading periods
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has previous experience in a supervisory or management role within a pub, bar, or hospitality environment
- Is confident managing a team and running shifts independently
- Has experience working alone and making decisions when senior management are not present
- Thrives in a busy, high-volume pub environment
- Has excellent communication and leadership skills
- Leads by example and isn’t afraid to get stuck in
- Is organised, reliable, and able to remain calm under pressure
- Has a passion for hospitality and delivering great customer experiences
