About Us
We are excited to be launching a newly refurbished Ds Klassic African Grill, Restaurant & Lounge in the heart of Birmingham. Under new management, we are building a passionate and dedicated team to deliver exceptional food, drinks and customer service in a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere.
We are looking for a hardworking and enthusiastic Chef Assistant to support our kitchen team in preparing and delivering high uality dishes while maintaining excellent food hygiene and safety standards.
Job Summary
As a Chef Assistant, you will work alongside our chefs to help prepare ingredients, assist with food preparation, maintain a clean and organised kitchen, and ensure food is served to the highest standards. This is a hands-on role that requires teamwork, attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
You will play an important role in supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the kitchen and ensuring guests enjoy an exceptional dining experience. Evening, weekend and late-night shifts will form part of this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist chefs with food preparation and cooking tasks.
- Prepare ingredients, including washing, chopping, measuring and portioning food.
- Help with plating and presentation of dishes as directed by the chefs.
- Maintain a clean, organised and hygienic kitchen at all times.
- Wash kitchen equipment, utensils and food preparation areas as required.
- Ensure ingredients are stored correctly and stock is rotated appropriately.
- Assist with receiving and storing deliveries.
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages to the Head Chef or General Manager.
- Follow all food hygiene, allergen and Health & Safety procedures.
- Support the kitchen team during busy service periods.
- Assist with opening and closing kitchen duties, including late-night closing shifts where required.
- Work collaboratively with chefs, waiting staff and management to ensure smooth restaurant operations.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience working in a commercial kitchen as a Chef Kitchen Assistant, Kitchen Assistant or similar role.
- A genuine passion for food and hospitality.
- Ability to work efficiently in a busy kitchen environment.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Reliable, punctual and willing to learn.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends and late-night shifts.
- A Level 2 Health & Safety qualification (or willingness to complete this qualification with our support).
- Right to work in the UK.
Desirable
- Experience preparing African cuisine or working within a grill or restaurant environment.
- Knowledge of food hygiene and allergen regulations.
- A Level 2 Food Safety & Hygiene qualification.
- Experience with stock rotation and food storage procedures.
