Patient Care Navigator (Receptionist) Part time (20 hours) permanent

Silverdale & Ryecroft Practice is looking for a friendly, compassionate and organised individual to join our busy and supportive GP practice as a Patient Care Navigator.
This is a rewarding and varied role where no two days are the same. As the first point of contact for our patients, you will play a vital role in ensuring patients receive the right care, from the right person, at the right time.
Working as part of our dedicated reception team, you will support patients both face-to-face and over the telephone, providing excellent customer service while working alongside GPs, nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team.
No previous experience in General Practice is required as full training will be provided, although experience within healthcare, customer service or administration would be advantageous.
About the Role
This is a busy, fast-paced position requiring excellent communication skills, empathy and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
You will be responsible for:
- Welcoming patients to the practice and providing a professional first impression.
- Answering a high volume of telephone calls in a courteous and efficient manner.
- Care navigating patients to the most appropriate clinician or healthcare service.
- Booking, amending and cancelling appointments using the practice EMIS clinical system.
- Processing patient enquiries via telephone, email and online services.
- Supporting patients with digital services including the NHS App where appropriate.
- Managing confidential patient information in accordance with GDPR and NHS policies.
- Working collaboratively with clinicians and colleagues to ensure patients receive timely access to care.
- Undertaking a variety of administrative tasks to support the smooth running of the practice.

- Good IT skills with the ability to learn new systems quickly (experience of Microsoft Office is desirable).
- The ability to work effectively within a busy team.
- A flexible and proactive approach to work.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to confidentiality.
Experience using EMIS Web or working in Primary Care is desirable but not essential.
Working Hours
This is a 20-hour permanent position
The hours for this post are detailed below. Flexibility is essential to support annual leave and sickness cover, and the successful candidate will be expected to work to 6.30pm from time to time.
Practice opening hours are 8.00am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday.
Monday 1pm – 6pm
Tuesday 1pm – 6pm
Wednesday 8am – 1pm
Thursday OFF
Friday 8am – 1pm
The post is subject to a satisfactory Enhanced DBS check.
