The Neuromuscular Complex Care Centre Clinical Teaching Fellow is a Specialty Registrar (SpR)-level post based at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH), combining specialist clinical experience in neuromuscular medicine with a substantial commitment to undergraduate medical education at UCL Medical School.
The post holder will work within the multidisciplinary Neuromuscular Complex Care Centre, contributing to the care of patients with inherited and acquired neuromuscular disorders, including muscular dystrophies, motor neurone disease, peripheral neuropathies, myopathies, and other complex neurological conditions. Clinical duties will include participation in specialist outpatient clinics, inpatient consultations, multidisciplinary team meetings, and the coordination of complex patient care within a tertiary referral service.
The post holder will work closely with the UGME Neurology Service Manager and the Neurology Consultant Lead for Undergraduate Education to support the delivery, organisation, and ongoing development of the UCL undergraduate neurology teaching programme, ensuring a high-quality educational experience for fourth-year medical students.
This position is to start in August 2026 for 12-months.
The post holder will deliver high-quality clinical teaching to fourth-year UCL Medical School students undertaking neurology and neurosciences placements, supporting the development of their clinical examination, diagnostic reasoning, communication, and professional skills. Teaching responsibilities will include bedside teaching, case-based discussions, clinical skills sessions, small-group tutorials, workplace-based learning, and the provision of constructive feedback and formative assessment.
The fellow will work closely with UCL Medical School and neurology faculty to organise and facilitate learning opportunities across outpatient, inpatient, and multidisciplinary settings. They will contribute to the development of innovative educational resources, teaching materials, and curriculum content, while helping to ensure a high-quality student experience.
Within the Neuromuscular Complex Care Centre, the post holder will participate in specialist outpatient clinics, inpatient consultations, multidisciplinary team meetings, and complex care planning for patients with inherited and acquired neuromuscular disorders. They will work collaboratively with medical, nursing, allied health professional, and community teams to deliver safe, effective, and patient-centred care within a tertiary referral service.

SHOs rotate through weeks of inpatient ward work and time on the daycare unit. Shifts are a combination of standard hours (usually 8.30am to 5pm) and on-call shifts.
Experience
Applicants should have completed a minimum of two years of postgraduate training following the Foundation Programme (or equivalent) and be working at ST3 level or able to demonstrate equivalent competencies.
Teaching
There are daily opportunities to attend teaching. These include grand rounds, clinico-pathologic cases, bedside teaching and consultant-led tutorials, often by international experts. Two teaching sessions are protected: a weekly teaching session for MRCP PACES neurology and a weekly CMT teaching session tied to the curriculum and delivered by consultants.
Supervision
All trainees will have a named educational supervisor and an electronic portfolio on which to log progress.
