Oscar’s Pathway is part of The Sibling Group Charity, providing a welcoming and inclusive day centre for young people and adults with a complex learning disability and autism. We are committed to helping each individual reach their full potential through meaningful, sensory, educational, and therapeutic experiences.
The Role
We are seeking a compassionate, enthusiastic Learning Disability Support Worker (bank) to join our dedicated team. You’ll play a vital role in creating a positive, engaging environment where every service user feels valued, safe, and supported.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting service users to participate in a wide range of educational and therapeutic sensory activities.
- Supporting service users to develop strategies to support their regulation and well-being.
- Encouraging and enabling individuals to develop independence in daily tasks and decision-making.
- Using and supporting the use of preferred communication methods (verbal, symbols, PECS, Makaton, AAC, etc.).
- Assisting with setting up activities and maintaining a clean, tidy, and safe environment.
- Contributing to a supportive team culture and promoting the values of The Sibling Group Charity.
About You
We are looking for someone who is patient, reliable, and passionate about supporting people with learning disabilities to live fulfilling lives and develop independence.
Essential experience and skills:
- Experience working with individuals with learning disabilities and/or autism.
- Experience managing or supporting individuals with challenging behaviour.
- Previous work in a school, care, or day service setting.
- A positive, solution-focused approach and effective communication skills.
Desired (but not essential):
- Knowledge of sensory integration and therapeutic approaches.
- Knowledge of positive behaviour support and strategies to support regulation.
- Understanding of communication strategies such as Makaton or PECS.
- Relevant qualifications in Health & Social Care or Education.
