Remedi are recruiting an Interventions Practitioner. The role will be 20 hours per week and will be located within the Cat B Male prison HMP Dovegate. You will be working within a multi-disciplinary team environment including Safer Custody, Security and other functions that support prisoners within the establishment. The role will be challenging and exciting as you will be working in a demanding environment, providing an opportunity to empower change and work with to contribute meaningfully to the experiences of prisoners and staff in a custody environment.
The primary aims of the role are:
· Delivering a wide range of Remedi’s Restorative programmes and workshops to prisoners both in groups and a 1:1 basis.
· Liaising with departments within the prison to update on engagement in the programmes and workshops/report any safeguarding concerns/make signposting referrals.
· Signposting individuals to agencies to support needs.
The role requires:
· Confidence in delivering programmes and workshops to a group of people, some of whom may display challenging behaviours.
· The ability to communicate ideas regarding empathy, consequential thinking and Restorative skills/practice in a clear and effective manner.
SKILLS REQUIRED
Knowledge: An understanding of a Prison environment and population including; understanding offending behaviour, mental health, risk factors that are associated with offending etc. This can be demonstrated through qualifications, training and experience in a voluntary or paid capacity working with offenders.
Communication: As well as working with Prisoners, you will also be communicating with a wide range of agencies and professionals, therefore good communication and listening skills with people of all backgrounds and staff of all disciplines it vital. Including being appropriately assertive, whilst also patient and open-minded when engaging with Prisoners.
Flexibility: Flexibility in working and being prepared to adapt to changes within the role. Working with people requires a flexible approach to ensure the service users needs are met and caseloads are managed effectively, therefore excellent organisational and time management skills are
essential. You will be working restoratively with both prisoners and staff – as expected of all Remedi staff. Working hours will be agreed with the Remedi Manager to ensure the needs of the service are being met – we anticipate this will be between the hours of 8:30am-5pm.
Motivation: An ability to work on your own initiative, but also a team player building positive relationships and communication with prisoners, staff and management across various prison functions. The role requires you to be calm and confident under pressure, resilient, motivated, takes pride in their work and achievements, reflective in their work, keen to learn/develop and non- judgmental.
IT Capable: Basic IT skills are required with the ability to use Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel and using an electronic calendar and email. Ability to use Microsoft teams for external training and meetings. There will also be prison systems that will need updating as part of the role and training will be provided in this area.
Proficient in the use of appropriate prison systems (Please note, training and support will be provided in this area of work).
Safety: We want you to work safely in all aspects of the role, including basic health and safety, safeguarding for all concerned, data protection, risk assessment, GDPR and confidentiality. Full training will be provided, and we will be looking for someone committed to achieving high standards on this. Being aware of and always adhering to prison rules, security policies, PSO’s and PSI’s (Prison service order & Prison service instructions).
WHAT TO EXPECT
- The expectation is that you engage in training and implement it within your working life.
- You will have a line manager who you will meet individually at least bi-monthly for supervision and management meetings, and they will also be available during the week to provide support and guidance, this maybe face to face or via phone.
- You will also have a point of contact within the prison and prison management to seek support and guidance from.

· Salary £24,000 (Actual £13,714) rising to £26,000 (Actual £14,857) at the end of Year 2 in role
