Job Purpose
The Kitchen Assistant supports the daily operation of the kitchen by ensuring workstations, utensils, and equipment are clean, organised, and ready for use. The purpose of this role is to maintain a hygienic, efficient, and well-structured kitchen environment, enabling the chefs to prepare dishes to Olympus’ high standards. This role also includes basic food preparation tasks and assisting with service during busy periods.
We are looking for a reliable person to join our hardworking team at the Olympus Restaurant. You will be working alongside our Kitchen Manager and team of Kitchen Assistants so must have the ability to work as a team and take pride in your work.
This is a fast-paced role and will require you to work efficiently and be comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
Reporting Line
Reports to: Head Chef / Kitchen Team-Leader
Key Responsibilities
Core duties:
- Set up workstations, equipment, and ingredients at the start of shifts.
- Wash and dry plates, cutlery, glassware, utensils, and cookware.
- Maintain a clean and tidy kitchen at all times.
- Follow all food hygiene, health & safety, and cleaning procedures.
- Clean equipment before and after use according to cleaning schedules.
- Dispose of waste correctly and maintain proper storage organisation.
- Complete a food hygiene & safety course if not already qualified.
Additional duties may include:
- Basic preparation of menu items (e.g., burgers, desserts, salads).
- Assisting takeaway staff with plating during busy periods.
- Stock rotation and date-labelling to ensure ingredient freshness.
Skills & Experience Required
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Good attention to detail and strong hygiene standards.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work as part of a team.
- Reliable, punctual, and motivated with a positive attitude.
- Physically able to stand for long periods and carry out manual tasks.
- Previous kitchen experience helpful but not required.
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
- Ability to work on own initiative and take pride in your work
Career Progression Opportunities
- This role allows progression onto the role of Kitchen Cook. Further progression onto Kitchen Team-Leader or Head Chef.
Working Hours and Days:
- This role requires flexibility across Monday - Saturday. Shifts can be assigned from 10am - 7.30pm. Shifts are usually full days or half days (most commonly 12pm-7.30pm or 12pm-3pm / 3pm - 7.30pm).
Pay: £12.71 per hour
Expected hours: 4.0 – 20.0 per week
