Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optical Assistant to join our professional team. This role involves supporting optometrists in delivering exceptional eye care services, assisting patients with their optical needs, and ensuring smooth clinic operations. Previous laboratory experience and knowledge of anatomy are advantageous, but full training will be provided. Responsibilities
- Assisting optometrists during eye examinations and patient consultations
- Preparing clinics to a high standard, booking appointments offering NHS/private/OCT/contact lenses.
- Supporting patients in selecting suitable frames and lenses, providing advice on colour, style, and fit. Have a good working knowledge of dispensing and optical prescriptions
- Conducting preliminary eye tests and recording patient information accurately
- Managing patient appointments and maintaining organised records
- Ensuring the cleanliness and organisation of the optical and consultation areas
- Assisting with stock management, including ordering supplies and checking inventory levels
- Providing exceptional customer service by addressing patient queries courteously and professionally
Experience
- Prior laboratory experience is desirable but not essential; training will be provided for all technical tasks
- Knowledge of human anatomy, particularly relating to the eye, is advantageous
- Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail
- Strong communication skills to effectively assist patients and team members
- Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team
- A proactive approach with a genuine interest in eye health and optical technology
