Davonport Kitchen & Home is looking for an Improver Bench Joiner to join our Colchester workshop.
This is an opportunity to develop your skills with a British manufacturer of high-quality, bespoke kitchens and furniture. You will need a minimum of an NVQ Level 2 in Furniture Making or Bench Joinery. This is required to demonstrate an understanding of workplace health and safety and to meet the requirements of the company’s insurance.
Previous workshop experience would be welcomed, but we are equally interested in your attitude, enthusiasm for the work and genuine willingness to learn. You will be shown how we make our products and will be expected to listen carefully, follow instructions and work consistently to Davonport’s methods and quality standards.
Pay will be negotiated based on your existing knowledge and practical ability. Your level of skill will be assessed during a one-week work trial.
The role
Working mainly with solid timber components, your duties will include:
- Assembling doors, frames and panels
- Producing bespoke components and one-off pieces
- Using hand tools and workshop machinery
- Working from cutting lists and technical drawings
- Checking your work carefully against the required specification
- Following workshop instructions and established production methods
- Supporting the department with a range of bench joinery tasks
Training can be provided in reading technical drawings and cutting lists. As your skills and knowledge develop, there may also be opportunities to gain experience in other departments and progress within the business.
About you
We are looking for someone who:
- Holds a minimum of an NVQ Level 2 in Furniture Making or Bench Joinery
- Has a sound understanding of workshop health and safety
- Has a positive attitude and takes pride in their work
- Is enthusiastic and willing to learn
- Listens carefully and follows instructions
- Is willing to adopt Davonport’s working methods
- Has some knowledge of hand tools and workshop machinery
- Pays close attention to quality and detail
- Works well as part of a workshop team
Working hours
- Monday to Thursday: 7.00am–4.30pm
- Friday: 7.00am–3.30pm
- Overtime is available
