Time & Motion Engineer / Analyst

This is an excellent opportunity to join a small team within a successful family-run SME, supporting the efficient operation of our production and manufacturing processes.
We are recruiting for a Time & Motion Engineer / Analyst to join our Operations team. Reporting to the Technical Director, this role is responsible for analysing and improving engineering and manufacturing processes through time and motion studies, work measurement and process observation. The role will establish accurate standard times, identify inefficiencies and support the optimisation of labour, machinery and resources across the business.
This position offers an excellent opportunity to become part of a supportive and experienced team within a successful family-run SME, playing a key role in improving productivity, reducing waste and driving continuous improvement across our production operations. Working closely with engineering, production and quality teams, you will provide accurate, practical analysis to help improve processes and ensure production targets and customer deadlines are achieved.
Job Purpose
To analyse engineering and manufacturing processes through time and motion studies, work measurement and process observation, with the aim of improving productivity, reducing waste, establishing accurate standard times and optimising the use of labour, machinery and resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct time and motion studies on manufacturing operations.
- Observe production activities and accurately record task times, cycle times and process sequences.
- Establish and maintain standard times for manufacturing operations.
- Analyse labour requirements, machine utilisation and production capacity.
- Identify inefficiencies, excessive movement, waiting time and non-productive added activities.
- Review engineering methods and production processes to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Work closely with production, production control and quality to understand current processes.
- Develop process maps, work instructions and standard operating methods where required.
- Analyse production data and prepare productivity and efficiency reports.
- Support production planning and labour/resource forecasting.
- Recommend improvements to workplace layouts, tooling, equipment, sequencing and working methods.
- Assist with setting realistic production targets and performance standards.
- Carry out follow-up studies to measure the impact of process improvements.
- Support Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, 5S and other productivity initiatives.
- Ensure measurements and recommendations are technically accurate and commercially practical.
- Present findings and improvement recommendations to engineering and management teams.
Required Experience
- Experience within an engineering, manufacturing, fabrication, assembly or production environment.
- Previous experience in time and motion studies, work measurement, production engineering or continuous improvement.
- Good understanding of engineering and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and process documentation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and data analysis.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong attention to detail and accurate measurement skills.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work with engineers, technicians and production operators.
Qualifications
- Relevant engineering or manufacturing experience may be considered in place of formal qualifications.

Pay: £15.00-£20.00 per hour
