OUR BUSINESS:
Here at The Silver Spoon Company, we are more than just sugar. We have an exciting portfolio of brands that support the Home Baking, Sweetening & Treats categories and a vision to become the true home of home baking in the eyes of our customers and consumers. This role will be key in supporting our Supply Team in meeting this vision.
As an inclusive employer we strive to create an environment where everyone can bring their best self to work and be supported to deliver so that we can all celebrate a successful growing business together.
The Role:
We are looking for a proactive and skilled Shift Engineer to support the safe, efficient, and reliable running of our processing and packaging plant in Bardney, Lincolnshire. In this position, you will play a key role in maintaining equipment performance by completing planned maintenance, responding promptly to breakdowns, and working closely with engineering managers and the wider team to minimise downtime and keep production running smoothly.
This role operates on a rotating shift pattern, of Earlies (06:00–14:00), Afters (14:00–22:00, finishing at 21:00 on Fridays), and Nights (22:00–06:00, Monday to Thursday). This equates to an average of 37 hours per week. You will be expected to work flexibly across these shifts to support operational needs and some overtime maybe required dependant on business needs.
A core part of the role is upholding high standards of safety, quality, and hygiene, ensuring these are consistently maintained and improved. You will also be actively involved in identifying and delivering continuous improvement opportunities, whether focused on productivity, ways of working, or value‑adding engineering solutions.
Strong communication is essential, and you will complete thorough job and shift handovers to ensure important information is accurately shared across the team. You will take responsibility for maintaining your technical skills and contributing positively to a high‑performing engineering culture. From time to time, additional duties may be required by Engineering Managers, or the wider Site Management Team.
The Candidate:
The ideal candidate will be a qualified Engineer with a recognised apprenticeship in either electrical or mechanical engineering, supported by NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent technical certifications. You will bring a strong commitment to safe working practices, with a track record of maintaining high safety, quality, and hygiene standards in previous roles.
Experience within an FMCG or packaging environment is highly desirable, as is confidence in diagnosing and resolving machine performance issues on a day‑to‑day basis. Candidates with PLC knowledge or experience will be particularly well suited to the role, although this is not essential. We are looking for someone who demonstrates personal accountability and takes pride in their work.
You should be comfortable interpreting performance data, identifying opportunities for improvement, and showing evidence of where your actions have delivered meaningful results. A continuous improvement mindset is key, along with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and communicate effectively with colleagues across shifts. If you are passionate about engineering, motivated by problem‑solving, and keen to contribute to a team that lives by values such as teamwork, personal ownership, continuous improvement, and pride in our products, we would love to hear from you
