East Goscote Plumbers are part of the wider family business, Jelson Limited. The Jelson group of companies has a wide range of businesses with our main business being construction (new homes, industrial and commercial) including associated transport, plant & machinery, logistics and supply chain activities.
The Technical Sales Manager is responsible for driving sales growth by combining strong technical expertise with commercial acumen. This role involves identifying customer needs, providing technical solutions, managing key client relationships, and leading the sales process from initial engagement through to contract completion. The Technical Sales Manager acts as the bridge between customers, engineering teams, and business leadership to deliver solutions that meet customer requirements and company objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take responsibility for developing new business opportunities and growing existing customer relationships, securing profitable work that supports the continued growth of the business.
- Build trusted, long-term relationships with customers, contractors, consultants and other key contacts, ensuring the company is recognised for its technical knowledge, reliability and quality of service.
- Produce accurate quotations, estimates and tender submissions that reflect customer requirements, company standards and commercial expectations, whilst maintaining appropriate profit margins.
- Provide practical technical advice and solutions to customers, ensuring recommendations are commercially viable, operationally achievable and deliver value for both the customer and the business.
- Work closely with the Managing Director and operational teams to ensure opportunities are assessed effectively, work is planned appropriately and projects are delivered in line with customer expectations.
- Take ownership of the sales process from initial enquiry through to contract award, ensuring customers receive a professional, responsive and consistent service throughout.
- Lead and support the Small Works Planning & Dispatch Team, ensuring workloads are effectively coordinated, priorities are managed and the team works collaboratively to provide an efficient service to customers and engineers.
- Monitor market activity, customer requirements and competitor developments, identifying opportunities to strengthen the company's position and develop new areas of business.
- Maintain an accurate overview of sales opportunities, customer activity and future workload, providing the Managing Director with reliable information to support business planning and decision-making.
- Support the continuous improvement of commercial and operational processes, identifying practical ways to improve efficiency, customer experience and profitability.
- Ensure all commercial activities are carried out in accordance with company policies, relevant legislation and health and safety requirements, maintaining the high professional standards expected by the business.
- Contribute as a member of the management team by sharing knowledge, supporting colleagues and helping to achieve the wider aims of the business.
- Undertake out additional duties appropriate to the role, skills, and level of competence as reasonably requested.
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of Health & Safety requirements including emergency procedures and hazard reporting.
- Ensure full compliance with all company policies and procedures.
- Ensure full compliance with GDPR and company data protection policies when handling customer personal information.
Relevant Qualifications or Experience Required:
- Proven experience in technical sales, business development, or sales management.
- Strong technical understanding of products, systems, or plumbing solutions.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to translate complex technical information into customer-focused benefits.
- Strong negotiation and closing skills.
- Experience within the gas industry both domestic and commercial
- Experience in Engineering, Business, Technology, or a related field.
- Relevant professional qualifications or industry certifications are advantageous
