Management Trainee Opportunity
The Role
A fantastic opportunity for a motivated individual to join our three-year management programme from September 2026. You will complete four placements, each lasting nine months, providing the opportunity to try different roles before successfully graduating from the scheme. The placements are extremely varied and will typically take place in the following departments where you will be empowered to help make strategic decisions on a day to day basis:
- Sales
- Operations
- Business Development
- Marketing

Travel
Headquartered in York with a manufacturing site at Barmby Moor (Pocklington), Portland also operates internationally, with offices in Germany and Canada. This role will be primarily based at our Pocklington site, although it is likely that one placement will be at the central York office. There are also opportunities for travel around the UK and occasional European/North American business trips.
Training
Full training and support will be provided, including an in-house training coordinator (responsible for structuring your personal development) and a dedicated external performance coach. We will work with you to identify a path for career development so that by the end of the three years you will be in an informed position to decide your next managerial steps with us. Many of our Trainees have been fully supported to further their studies, develop their operational competencies or achieve professional certification / accreditation.
Future Prospects
Upon successful completion of the management training scheme, you will have acquired the following skills:
- The ability to develop and implement comprehensive Marketing and Business Development plans which align with organisational objectives
- Experience in building strong relationships with customers and prospects through direct sales experience
- Be able to schedule and route Diesel, AdBlue and Automotive Urea deliveries across the UK
- Ability to contribute to the bottom line by working fast and decisively under pressure
- The development of people-management skills with an incredibly diverse range of people
- A deep understanding of International markets (EU, North America and Emerging Markets)
- Expert knowledge in all aspects of commodity markets
Who we are looking for

You should be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, superior organisational ability and a positive, can-do attitude. You must also have a valid British Driving License.
