Motorbikes 4 All is one of the UK’s largest motorcycle dealerships, operating from our huge 60,000 sq ft site in Newent with an extensive used-bike showroom and purpose-built workshop.
We buy and sell thousands of motorcycles nationwide and are looking for a knowledgeable and commercially minded Motorcycle Underwriter / Buyer to join our growing team.
The Role
Your primary responsibility will be valuing and purchasing motorcycles for the business, dealing with both members of the public and trade contacts.
You’ll need a strong knowledge of motorcycles and the confidence to make commercial decisions on what bikes are worth, what we should pay for them, and their potential resale value.
Day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Valuing motorcycles offered to the business
- Purchasing bikes directly from private sellers and trade contacts
- Assessing condition, specification, mileage, history and market value
- Negotiating purchase prices and agreeing deals
- Handling inbound calls from customers looking to sell their motorcycles
- Following up leads and converting enquiries into purchases
- Developing relationships with traders, dealers and other sources of motorcycle stock
- Actively growing our network of private and trade sellers
- Monitoring the motorcycle market and identifying desirable stock
- Completing associated administration accurately
- Supporting the sales team and showroom when required
- Assisting with general office duties during busy periods
About You
For this role, motorcycle knowledge is essential. You should have a genuine interest in bikes and a good understanding of a wide variety of makes and models.
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Genuinely knowledgeable and enthusiastic about motorcycles
- Familiar with a broad range of manufacturers, models and types of bike
- Commercially minded and comfortable making decisions
- A confident negotiator
- Comfortable speaking to customers on the phone
- Personable and able to build relationships with both private sellers and traders
- Organised with strong administration skills
- Confident using computers and online systems
- Able to work independently and use their own judgement
- Proactive and willing to chase opportunities rather than waiting for the phone to ring
- Comfortable working in a busy, fast-paced dealership
- A strong team player who is happy to help elsewhere when required
Previous experience in motorcycle sales, purchasing, underwriting, vehicle valuations or the motor trade would be advantageous, although extensive motorcycle knowledge and the right commercial attitude are equally important.
A motorcycle licence is preferred but not essential.
