Bertram's is a busy café, restaurant and bar in the heart of beautiful Warkworth, serving breakfast, brunch, lunch and evening dining using fresh, locally sourced ingredients wherever possible.
We're looking for a talented and motivated Sous Chef to support our Head Chef and help lead our kitchen team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Sous Chef, or a strong Chef de Partie looking to take the next step, to join a growing hospitality business that values quality, teamwork and progression.
The Role
Working closely with the Head Chef, you'll help ensure every service runs smoothly while maintaining the high standards our guests expect.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the day-to-day running of the kitchen
- Leading the kitchen team during service
- Preparing and cooking fresh dishes to a consistently high standard
- Assisting with ordering, stock control and GP management
- Maintaining excellent food hygiene, HACCP and health & safety standards
- Training and mentoring junior chefs
- Helping develop seasonal menus and daily specials
- Taking responsibility for the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence
About You
We're looking for someone who:
- Has previous experience as a Sous Chef or an experienced Chef de Partie ready to progress
- Is passionate about cooking with fresh, quality ingredients
- Has strong organisational and leadership skills
- Works well under pressure while maintaining attention to detail
- Has a good understanding of stock management and food cost control
- Takes pride in maintaining a clean, organised kitchen
- Is reliable, enthusiastic and enjoys working as part of a close-knit team
