General Practice Assistant (GPA) (Maternity Cover – 12-month Fixed-Term Contract
We are looking to recruit a motivated, organised and patient-focused General Practice Assistant (GPA) to join our friendly team at Kingstone Surgery on a 12-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave.
Hours: 25–37 hours per week, worked over five days
Salary: Up to £28,013 per annum, depending on experience and hours
This is a varied and rewarding role combining administrative responsibilities with appropriately delegated clinical tasks. Working closely with our GPs and wider practice team, you will help streamline clinical workflows, coordinate patient care and contribute to the smooth running of the practice.
Kingstone Surgery is a welcoming rural practice situated in the beautiful Golden Valley, between Hereford and Hay-on-Wye. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in delivering high-quality work and wants to develop their skills within a supportive primary care environment. Full training, supervision and competency assessment will be provided in line with the requirements of the role. We have free parking, free coffee/tea and a nice garden for lunching.
Qualifications
· Accredited General Practice Assistant (GPA) qualification or completion of a recognised GPA training programme (Desirable)
Experience – Essential
- Experience working in an administrative, customer-facing or patient-facing role.
- Experience using EMIS Web and Docman.
- Experience communicating effectively with a wide range of people and working within a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience maintaining accurate records and handling confidential information.
- Ability to organise and prioritise a varied workload while maintaining excellent attention to detail.
- Understanding of professional boundaries and when to seek clinical advice.
- Commitment to learning and continuing professional development.
- Good written English, numeracy and digital literacy.
Desirable Experience
- Experience of clinical coding and an understanding of primary care coding processes.
- Experience working in general practice, primary care, the NHS or another health or care setting.
- Experience of workflow management, patient recalls or processing clinical correspondence.
- Experience supporting long-term condition reviews.
- Experience undertaking delegated clinical procedures, such as blood pressure measurement, urine testing, ECG recording or phlebotomy.
