PURPOSE
The Head of Estimating will lead and manage the Estimating / Planning Department, ensuring accurate and timely preparation of cost estimates for large-format print and signage projects. This role involves collaborating with sales, operations, and project management teams to align on pricing, timelines, and client requirements. They lead teams of estimators, develop accurate cost projections for complex projects, and optimize commercial profitability. It blends strategic leadership, risk management, and hands-on bid delivery to secure winning contracts.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
§ Cost Estimation:
o Oversee cost estimates for materials, labour, equipment, and timelines.
o Oversee tender submissions, negotiate contract terms, and review high-stakes bids to ensure technical and commercial compliance
§ Client Engagement:
o Liaise with clients to gather project requirements and issue quotes.
o Build relationships with Tier 1/Tier 2 clients, subcontractors, and internal delivery teams to ensure smooth post-bid transitions and project handovers.
§ Supplier Management:
o Negotiate and communicate with suppliers and subcontractors.
§ Risk Management:
o Identify cost or project risks; provide mitigation strategies.
o Identify potential financial risks, formulate value engineering opportunities, and analyse market trends (e.g. inflation, labour rates).
§ Documentation & Compliance:
o Ensure professional, timely proposal submission.
§ Team Leadership:
o Lead, manage, and develop the Estimating Team.
o Take part in interviews.
o Assisted by the HR Team, complete performance reviews and manage employee relations within their staff members.
§ Project Handover:
o Smooth transition of projects to delivery teams.
§ Health & Safety:
o Ensure compliance during estimation/tendering.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- At least 5 years’ experience working within an Estimating role.
- At least 2 years’ experience within printing/manufacturing field.
- At least 2 years’ experience managing teams.
- Proven track record in tenders for projects up to £5 million.
- High financial and commercial acumen, with a deep understanding of cost planning, profitability margins, and budget forecasting.
- Strong leadership and motivation skills.
- Strong Microsoft Office knowledge, especially Excel and Word.
- Clear and confident communication.
- Strategic thinker with commercial awareness.
- Organised, detailed, calm under pressure.
- Familiarity with drawings/specifications.
DESIRED REQUIREMENTS
- Full UK driving license.
- Degree qualification.
- AutoCAD experience and professional chartership.
Pay: £75,000.00-£85,000.00 per year
