Grounds Maintenance Operative (x2)

Full-Time | Early Finish Fridays
Thorn Baker are recruiting for 2 Grounds Maintenance Operatives to join a local council’s Green Spaces team based in Ilkeston.
This is a great opportunity for experienced operatives who are confident working across a variety of outdoor environments, helping maintain high standards across public spaces.
Hours:
-
Monday to Thursday: 07:30 – 16:00
-
Friday: 07:30 – 12:30
Pay:
-
Weeks 0–12: £12.71 per hour
-
Weeks 13–52: £13.90 per hour
-
Weeks 52+: £14.13 per hour
Duties include:
-
Grass cutting across highways, open spaces, and cemeteries
-
Operating pedestrian and ride-on mowers (rotary and cylinder)
-
Using strimmers, hedge cutters, and other grounds maintenance equipment
-
General upkeep of public green spaces
-
Working safely and efficiently as part of a team
What we’re looking for:
-
Experience in grounds maintenance or similar outdoor roles
-
PA1/PA6 certification (preferred)
-
Competence using mowers, strimmers, and hedge cutters
-
Chainsaw certification (desirable)
-
Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all conditions

Reliable, safety-conscious, and a good team player
