Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to oversee and coordinate all payroll activities within our organisation. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of employee wages, maintaining compliance with relevant legislation, and managing payroll-related data.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing our end-to-end payroll service., including the accurate and timely processing of payrolls for a varied portfolio of clients, ensuring accuracy and compliance with HMRC regulations and relevant legislation, and managing payroll-related data.
As the face of our payroll services, you will build strong client relationships and provide expert advice on payroll and pension queries.

Responsibilities
Portfolio Management: Oversee and process multiple client payrolls across various industries, managing different frequencies (weekly, fortnightly, monthly).
Statutory Compliance: Handle all aspects of PAYE, National Insurance, Attachment of Earnings, and statutory payments (SSP, SMP, SPP).
HMRC Reporting: Submit accurate Real Time Information (RTI) data, including Full Payment Submissions (FPS) and Employer Payment Summaries (EPS). Assist with more technical enquiries when they arise.
Pension Administration: Manage auto-enrolment setup, assessment, and contributions across multiple pension providers (e.g., NEST, Peoples Pension, Smart Pension).
Client Advisory: Act as the main point of contact for client queries, explaining tax code changes, redundancy calculations, and complex payroll legislation.
Onboarding & Offboarding: Set up new client payroll schemes on the software and smoothly manage the transfer of historic data.
Year-End Processing: Complete all payroll year-end requirements, producing and distributing P60s and processing P11D benefits-in-kind.
Maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee information at all times.
Ensure compliance with statutory regulations regarding payroll processing and reporting.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of payroll experience specifically within an accountancy practice or bureau environment managing multiple client accounts.
- Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with cloud-based bureau software such as BrightPay.
- Technical Knowledge: Up-to-date knowledge of UK payroll legislation, tax codes, CIS (Construction Industry Scheme), and auto-enrolment rules.
- Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to explain complex payroll data simply to small business owners.
- Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)Accuracy: Maintaining a near-zero error rate across client payroll processing and submissions.
- Deadlines: Ensuring all RTI submissions and client payment approval schedules are met on time.
- Client Retention: Delivering exceptional customer service to maintain strong client satisfaction. Use own initiative to resolve issues and to assist the team where possible, by providing a range of solutions and seeking advice where necessary.
- Organisational skills capable of managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
Pay: £25,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
