Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Lead Control & Protection System Application Engineer to oversee the development, integration, and optimisation of control and protection systems within electrical infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in system design, troubleshooting, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. Duties
- Lead the design and realisation of control and protection systems using advanced system design tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, and SolidWorks.
- Develop schematics and detailed electrical diagrams for system applications, ensuring accuracy and adherence to project specifications.
- Conduct root cause analysis on system faults using MATLAB, Python, or Perl to identify issues and implement corrective actions.
- Programme and debug programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and firmware for automation processes, utilising C++, ARM architectures, and signal processing techniques.
- Perform simulations with Simulink to validate system performance under various operational scenarios.
- Collaborate with mechanical engineers to integrate control systems with mechanical components, leveraging mechanical knowledge and surface mount technology (SMT).
- Utilise CAD tools such as Revit and MicroStation for 3D modelling of electrical layouts within complex infrastructure projects.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts during commissioning phases, including soldering, debugging, and testing control hardware components.
- Ensure all designs meet safety standards and industry regulations through rigorous testing and documentation.
- Mentor junior engineers in technical best practices related to electrical system design, firmware development, and schematic creation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience with control systems design, including expertise in SoC architectures.
- Proven ability in root cause analysis for complex electrical or control faults.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, SolidWorks for schematic creation and system modelling.
- Strong programming skills in Python, C++, Perl, with experience in firmware development for embedded systems such as ARM processors.
- Hands-on experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), surface mount technology (SMT), soldering, debugging hardware issues, and signal processing techniques.
- Familiarity with MATLAB/Simulink for simulation purposes; experience with System design is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems integration within electrical projects is advantageous.
- Ability to interpret schematics and technical drawings accurately; experience with CAD software is essential.
- Excellent problem-solving skills combined with strong organisational abilities to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Pay: £45.00-£50.00 per hour
