Waking Night Support Worker
New Venture Care Ltd is recruiting a reliable, confident and proactive Waking Night Support Worker to join our supported living service in Gloucester.
This is an active waking-night position from 10:00pm to 7:00am. You will remain awake and available throughout the shift, ensuring the people we support are safe, comfortable and appropriately supported overnight.
We are looking for someone who can work independently, use their initiative and maintain high standards throughout the night.
Your responsibilities
As a Waking Night Support Worker, you will:
- Remain awake and alert throughout the full night shift
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of residents throughout the night
- Complete scheduled welfare and safety checks
- Respond promptly when residents require support
- Provide emotional reassurance and practical support where needed
- Support with personal care where required
- Administer or support with medication in line with care plans and procedures
- Respond appropriately to incidents, emergencies or changes in presentation
- Follow individual care plans and risk assessments
- Maintain accurate and detailed overnight care records
- Complete appropriate household and cleaning duties during quieter periods
- Ensure communal areas are clean, safe and ready for the following day
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries
- Complete a thorough handover for the incoming day team
- Escalate safeguarding, health or operational concerns appropriately

- Comfortable undertaking household duties as part of the night shift
- Able to work weekends as part of a rota
- Committed to promoting dignity, choice and independence
Previous experience in supported living, mental health, learning disabilities, autism, complex needs or adult social care is desirable.
Applicants with previous waking-night experience will be particularly welcomed.
Shift pattern
Shifts are:
10:00pm – 7:00am
This is a waking-night shift, meaning you must remain awake throughout your working hours.
Both weekday and weekend availability may be required depending on the rota.
