The Role
We’re looking for a Packaging Operator who’s excited to bring their skills and ideas to the table. In this role, you’ll play a key role in the efficient operation of packaging lines and associated logistics activities within the packaging area. The role is responsible for ensuring assigned line zones and support tasks run correctly, contributing to the achievement of production volume targets while maintaining required quality, food safety, and health & safety standards. The hours for this role will be : 39 hours per week across 3 shifts (6am-2pm, 2pm-10pm, 10pm-6am)
What You’ll Be Doing
- Operate and control packaging machinery within the assigned work area to achieve required production volumes and quality standards, in line with approved operating procedures and safety regulations.
- Ensure continuous operation of the process by supplying machines with the required materials in a timely and efficient manner.
- Monitor process indicators and accurately record all production data within the MES system, including manufacturing orders, downtime causes, format changes, cleaning times, and quality self‑checks.
- Maintain high standards of order, housekeeping, and hygiene within the work area, carrying out cleaning, autonomous maintenance, material handling, and other support tasks as required.
- Ensure the correct use, care, and preservation of equipment, tools, and materials, promptly reporting any faults or incidents that could impact plant operations.
- Execute and monitor tasks related to Quality, Food Safety, HACCP, and Food Defence within the assigned area, ensuring compliance with site standards and regulatory requirements.
Key Operational Activities
- Operate canning lines and kegging lines from start‑up through to shutdown, in line with SOPs.
- Operate palletisers, depalletisers, robots, and associated automation in a safe and compliant manner.
- Carry out forklift and clamp truck operations, including pre‑use safety checks and compliance with H&S requirements.
- Load and unload inbound and outbound trucks safely and efficiently.
- Handle gas loading using FLT equipment as required.
- Sort, inspect, and handle kegs, including external visual inspections and preparation of empties for production.
- Deliver finished product throughout the process as required to support production flow.
- Complete SAP transactions and data entry as required to support production and logistics activities.
- Use LIMS to enter and review quality data, escalating any out‑of‑spec or abnormal results.
- Carry out beer sampling for kegs and cans, working closely with Laboratory and Filtration teams to ensure product compliance.
- Perform quality checks, including weight checks of empty and full kegs, Rotec keg processing, and recording of results; report any anomalies immediately.
- Record and monitor critical process parameters such as temperatures, pressures, CO₂, and other control measures in line with process requirements.
- Report any equipment, quality, or process anomalies via Holistec and escalate issues to senior team members or Engineering as appropriate.
- Support Engineering with maintenance activities when required.
Compliance & General Duties
- Follow all Health & Safety standards, ensuring correct PPE usage and adherence to cleaning and hygiene procedures per SOPs.
- Report all H&S incidents, near misses, and safety concerns promptly and accurately.
- Participate in departmental meetings, training sessions, and briefings as required.
- Support general housekeeping across the packaging area and wider site.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties in line with business and departmental needs.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience operating kegging lines, canning lines, and forklifts within a factory or manufacturing environment (or similar).
- Flexible, reliable, and eager to learn, with a positive attitude toward training and development.
- Valid and up‑to‑date FLT licence, with experience operating forklift trucks.
- Shunter licence held.
- Experienced in clamp (“top hat”) truck operation.
- SAP exposure or training, with the ability to complete system transactions accurately.
- MEWP trained.
- Competent in CIP processes, particularly keg CIP.
- Previous experience loading and unloading trailers safely and efficiently.
- Computer literate, with the ability to complete documentation and electronic records accurately.
- Strong time‑management skills, with the ability to prioritise, organise, and multitask; comfortable completing forms and records to support audits and compliance.
- Experience working across different shift patterns, including weekends.
- Good problem‑solving skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining safety and quality standards.
