Multi-Skilled Commercial Gas Engineer (Bakery/FMCG)

We are seeking a Multi-Skilled Commercial Gas/Bakery Engineer with strong electrical competency, a robust mechanical background, and experience maintaining heavy food manufacturing plant to join our mobile reactive engineering team.
Job Overview
- On-Call Rota: 1 weekend in 5
- Flexibility: High (Must be available to travel and work away at short notice)
- Sector Experience: Industrial bakery / food manufacturing environment is highly preferred
Key Responsibilities
- Bakery Plant Maintenance: Service, fault-find, and repair high-capacity bakery equipment including commercial ovens, provers, coolers, and glaze machines.
- Combustion & Heating: Maintain, tune, and repair commercial gas systems, burners, and industrial heating plant.
- Mechanical Overhauls: Diagnose and rebuild rotating mechanical assets, including gearboxes and recirculation fan assemblies.
- Electrical Troubleshooting: Read wiring schematics, safely isolate machinery, and fault-find electrical controls and panels.
- Reactive Response: Travel nationwide to attend emergency manufacturing breakdowns and minimize production downtime.
- On-Call Duties: Participate in a 1-in-5 weekend on-call rota to provide out-of-hours coverage.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Gas Credentials: Valid Commercial Gas Safe qualifications (e.g., COCN1, CIGA1, CORT1, CDGA1).
- Mechanical Expertise: Proven background working with rotating equipment, heavy drive systems, gearboxes, and recirc fans.
- Electrical Competency: Confident in electrical fault-finding, testing components, and safe isolation.
- High Flexibility: Absolute willingness to travel extensively and stay overnight at short notice.
- Driver's Licence: Full, clean UK driving licence.
Desirable Experience
- Bakery Manufacturing: Specific experience working with industrial ovens, provers, or continuous cooling systems.
- Welding Skills: Basic welding/fabrication experience (e.g., TIG/MIG) for minor plant repairs.
- Hygiene Standards: Understanding of food safety regulations and working within food-safe zones.
