Priory Hospital Middleton St George has an opportunity for a Registered Nurse RMN/RNLD to join our team.
Set in spacious and relaxing grounds, Priory Hospital Middleton St George, located in Darlington, County Durham, is a specialist inpatient service for adults with mental health issues, complex needs and behaviours that challenge. We are dedicated to supporting people to transfer effortlessly between the most appropriate care, meeting individual needs, enabling recovery and re-engagement within the community, and maximising life opportunities.
We accept referrals from a wide variety of public sector organisations throughout the UK, including special hospitals, psychiatric hospitals, prisons, courts, low secure units (LSUs), medium secure units (MSUs), forensic lead commissioners, social services, NHS Mental Health Trusts, GPs, the police and others.

- Deliver high-quality, person-centred nursing care to adults with mental health needs within an inpatient setting.
- Complete comprehensive assessments, develop and review individualised care plans, and evaluate patient progress.
- Act as Named Nurse, building therapeutic relationships with patients and involving families and carers where appropriate.
- Administer and manage medication safely in line with NMC standards and organisational policies.
- Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to ward rounds, handovers and care planning.
- Promote recovery-focused care while maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment for patients and colleagues.
- Respond effectively to changing clinical needs, managing risk and escalating concerns where necessary.
- Support junior colleagues, students and newly qualified nurses through supervision and mentorship.
- Maintain accurate, timely clinical records and ensure compliance with safeguarding, mental health legislation and professional standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the continuous development of the service.

Essential for the role
- Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with a valid NMC registration.
- Minimum 6 months' post-registration experience within a mental health or learning disabilities setting.
- Experience delivering person-centred care and managing a caseload of patients.
- Confident in assessment, care planning, risk management and clinical decision-making.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of safeguarding, the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and NMC Code.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and maintaining high standards of clinical practice.
The following experience would be beneficial
- Experience working in an inpatient mental health setting.
- Previous experience as a Named Nurse or shift coordinator.
- Experience mentoring students or newly qualified nurses.
- Knowledge of quality improvement initiatives and clinical audit.
- Experience supporting patients with complex mental health needs.
- Training in de-escalation, PMVA/MAPA or other positive behaviour support techniques.
- Experience working with electronic patient record systems.
