Pilates Class Tutor
We are looking for a friendly, knowledgeable, and adaptable Pilates Tutor to deliver a welcoming weekly Pilates class for adults in the local community.
Hours per week: 1 hour of class delivery, with additional preparation and basic administration as required.
Session time:
Weekday evenings only.
We are flexible on the exact weekday and are happy to arrange the class around the availability of the successful tutor.
The class is intended to support adults with a range of abilities and experience levels. The main focus is to help participants improve their core strength, mobility, flexibility, posture, balance, body awareness, and overall wellbeing.
The tutor will have freedom to plan and deliver sessions using their own teaching style, provided that sessions are safe, inclusive, welcoming, and appropriately adapted for participants with different abilities.
Requirements
Tutors will be expected to:
- Be registered as self-employed with HMRC, or be willing to register.
- Hold appropriate Public Liability Insurance.
- Hold a suitable Pilates, exercise, movement, or physical activity qualification appropriate for delivering Pilates classes.
- Have an appropriate understanding of safely adapting Pilates exercises for adults with different levels of ability and mobility.
- Be able to carry out basic pre-exercise health screening and identify when exercises may need to be adapted.
- Hold an appropriate first aid qualification, or be willing to obtain one.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver an engaging one-hour weekly Pilates class.
- Provide a suitable warm-up and cool-down where appropriate.
- Include exercises that support core strength, posture, mobility, flexibility, balance, and body awareness.
- Adapt exercises for participants with different abilities, fitness levels, mobility needs, or health considerations.
- Provide suitable alternatives or progressions where required.
- Give clear explanations and demonstrations so participants can exercise safely and confidently.
- Welcome new participants and send a brief introductory email before their first session.
- Maintain an accurate and up-to-date attendance register.
- Carry out appropriate pre-exercise health screening with new participants.
- Be aware of participants’ relevant physical or health needs and adapt exercises appropriately.
- Provide clear safety and housekeeping information, including the location of toilets, first aid equipment, emergency exits, and the fire assembly point.
- Ensure the room and any equipment are safely prepared before the session.
- Create a positive, inclusive, and encouraging environment where participants of different ages and abilities feel comfortable.
- Encourage participants to develop confidence in movement and, where appropriate, suggest simple ways they can remain active between sessions.
About You
- Friendly, patient, supportive, and confident leading small groups.
- Knowledgeable about Pilates principles, core strength, posture, mobility, flexibility, balance, and safe movement.
- Able to adapt activities for people with different levels of fitness and mobility.
- Comfortable supporting beginners as well as participants with previous Pilates experience.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- Able to create a welcoming community atmosphere.
- Experience delivering Pilates classes in a community setting is desirable.
- Experience supporting older adults, people returning to exercise, or participants with mobility or health considerations would be beneficial but is not essential.
